Spring is in the air

by Patrick, 28 March, 2012

It’s finally coming around. A time when we can dress for a ride without putting on layers and layers. While it’s not quite here yet we got a little taste last Sunday. The Sunday group brought out all the usual faces including a great representation of the new Contender kits. Remember the Sunday group ride leaves the store at 10am so join in!

Milan-San Remo and New Kits

by Patrick, 15 March, 2012

It’s come to that time of year again. The time when the flowers start to bloom and the sun warms us with it’s rays that seem to have been absent for the last few months. What does mean for cycling fans? It means losing the leg warmers and it also means Milan-San Remo. “La Primavera” traditionally starts off the spring race campaign and is the first major event of the year. Any rider who’s shooting for a strong spring wants a piece of this glory. So who’s the man for this race? A sprinter? Maybe? A climber? Rarely. An all-rounder or Rouleur? Very possible. In all depends on how the stars align. I personally think a dark horse rider is going to surprise this year. We’ll have to watch to find out.

Also by now you might know that the 2012 Contender Club kits have officially arrived. If you’ve gotten yours you know by now they’re sweet. If you haven’t joined up yet there’s still time and we’ve got some stock left but you better jump on it. Got the new stuff? Like it? Send me a picture of you with it on to put on the blog and start the spring right.

Kits are here! Everything looks great. My personal favorite is the long sleeve jersey. Here is a quick look at the jersey!

Get your Roll on!

by Patrick, 20 February, 2012

The rollers are rolling. Get in while the rollers are hot. We’ve got a few roller kings to take the early plunge. If you think you got the goods, or you just want to have some fun while snow is on the ground, get on it before the world ends in 2012.

Once you get them started it's hard to stop

Roller Race 2.0!

by Patrick, 21 January, 2012

It’s coming around to Roller Race time.  It’s an annual fun, challenging, sweat inducing, side splitting romp.  There are many themes I’m considering but my main drive is to DE-throne Reed.  He’s the three time champ and he must be destroyed.   He’s the Darth Vader of the roller race inflicting his imperial ways upon the good guys like myself.  Do you have what it takes?  The great part of the Roller Race is everyone can get their best shot in and have some fun.  Be on the look out for many details.  Of course there’s always a twist to the Roller Race so be ready for anything.

Remember the good times.

Ok so maybe this never happened last year but if Paul Bunion shows up to roller race on a couple of tree trunks I’d give him a shot.  You Surly owners should seriously consider this.

All hands on deck!

by , 16 December, 2011

It’s the fourth quarter, bottom of the ninth, the last kilometer and we’re down. Down about 81 team points to be exact. We need our troops to bring the ruckus to wheeler on Sat. Remember no matter what category you race your points count. How can I step it up even more you ask? Race more than one race. Do the single speed race, the masters race, B race, or whatever. At the end of the day if we want to keep this title we’re going to have to earn it. See you Saturday at the farm.

Now is the winter of our discontent. It’s just cross people

by , 6 November, 2011

Yes we’ve got snow, yes it’s cold, and yes my jean jacket isn’t as insulating as I thought it would be but let’s get real. Cyclo-crossers unite and tough this sort of thing out. They did in Heber on Saturday and I’ve got the pictures to prove it. As you may know the Contender armada was only a few points away from the team overall lead going into Saturday so keep an eye out to see if we made the leap.

Cross bot 3000 to the line!

by , 26 October, 2011

This weekend is the annual Halloween costume cross race at Wheeler Farm. Tony Church aka Cross Bot 3000 as you may know is the reigning champ. He won a new Cannondale cross frame last year for his hard wired efforts and is dusting the competition on it this year. What are you up against you ask? How can you corrupt his server? Will you submit to him a syntax error? Will you pour soda all over his keyboard? Are all these computer references too much? Find out this weekend. Check him out in full flight.

Liquigas-Cannondale Ride

by alisonl, 17 August, 2011

Thanks to all of those who turned out for the ride with the Liquigas-Cannondale boys. It was an impressive sight seeing the Liguigas team lead a group of over 100 riders up Emigration canyon. Between the ride, the autograph signing and a fleet of demo bikes hitting the streets of 9th & 9th, there was a lot of action yesterday afternoon and evening at Contender Bicycles. After a long week of racing behind them and a long week ahead next week at the US Pro Cycling Challenge, the Liquigas-Cannondale team was gracious enough to spend an afternoon with us.

AN AFTERNOON WITH THE LIQUIGAS-CANNONDALE PRO CYCLING TEAM

Contender Bicycles is proud to host an afternoon with the Liquigas-Cannondale Pro Cycling Team this Tuesday, August 16.

Starting at 3:00 pm the Cannondale Demo truck will send out the new SuperSix Evo, Scalpel 29′er, Flash Carbon 29′er and more! Come down and take one out for a spin!

At 5:00 pm the Liquigas-Cannondale riders from the Tour of Utah will be hanging out at the shop chatting and signing autographs. Meet the Americans Ted King and Tim Duggan, of course the Italians and one of the infamous Sagan brothers.

When 6:00 pm rolls around, we are lucky enough to ride with Liquigas-Cannondale up Emigration Canyon to the top of Little Mountain. This will be an easy-paced ride as the riders will still be tired from the Tour of Utah! Whether you are on your bike or on a demo Cannondale, this will be a fun event! We will regroup at the top of Little Mountain and descend back down together.
