Friends in Italy and Tour picks update

by , 20 July, 2011

Our friends Marlin Sandlin and Alex Rosas flew the Contender colors in the Dolomite’s recently and sent these great shots. You guys look great and I’m sure you had a ton of fun.

Also our tour pool is coming down to the wire. Rob Tobler is in the lead but just barley over a hard charging group. Tomorrows stage will definitely shake up the standings. It seems a lot of people are picking Contador and a few have Sanchez and one or two Andy Schleck picks are in there. Unfortunately for some they’ve picked Chris Horner, Vino, and Robert Gesink (Patrick) who are all out of the race. Don’t forget stages 19-21 are all potential scoring chances so it should get very interesting.

Tour de France Fantasy Picks!

by alisonl, 28 June, 2011

It is time for the annual Tour de France Fantasy Picks. This year should be interesting with Contador still being allowed to race, Cavendish talking mad trash and all the drama that always happens! This year’s Tour looks to be one of the most exciting! Here are the details of the fantasy picks!

There will be points given for each correct pick for the following stages and the general classification. The points value of each stage and classification is listed in parentheses before the stage and classification. The person with the most points wins the Grand Prize Package! There will also be second and third place prize packages! In the case of a tie, the highest number of stage picks will break the tie.

Just copy the following list, list your pick for the win next to each stage and classification and post your list of picks as a comment to the blog. This way we can all follow who is leading the competition. Your picks need to be submitted by Friday night, July 1 since the Le Tour starts on Saturday, July 2!

Tour de France next up…

by , 20 June, 2011

As you all know The Tour is next month and we always have a great pool going of picks with some great prizes. We’ve selected certain stages in which you have to make your best guess as to who the winner will be. You also get a chance to pick the podium as well. In addition to those picks there’s also a few wild card ones too. Things like first rider to be kicked out for doping, first rider out from a crash, and so on.

I open this category up to suggestion. What kind of crazy stuff can we think of to add to the excitement? Add your suggestions in the comments and get ready for the tour.

Jeff Scott at Paris-Roubaix

by , 7 May, 2011

Club member Jeff Scott and some friends ventured to the north of France to witness the Queen of the Classics. But they didn’t just witness it, they rode the course too. Jeff was also in our winter compu-trainer class so he was really prepared for this ride. Thanks for the pictures Jeff and we hope to see you on the road.

If you thought I was only good at drawing hand turkeys and Googleing my own name you are wrong. I’ve got a keen eye for style, substance, and panache. Ok not really but I think these shots are kind of cool.

Contender & Rapha Ride for Tohoku

by alisonl, 18 March, 2011

tohoku

Rapha is organizing a series of world-wide charity rides this weekend in order to help the victims of the worst disaster in Japan since World War II. All money raised will benefit the Japanese Red Cross Society.

As a Rapha dealer, we are going to participate in this by using this Sunday’s group ride (3/20/11) which meets at 10 a.m. at the shop as our charity effort. If you would like to donate, please bring $10 to the ride. Both Contender Bicycles and Rapha will match this donation. There will be people at the ride who will not have received the word about our charity efforts for the ride so please do not feel that you have to donate to participate in this Sunday’s group ride.

For more information or if you would like to donate online, please go to http://www.rapha.cc/rapha-rides-for-tohoku.

Possible idea for next year’s roller race?

by , 2 March, 2011

Check this out, that’s all that needs to be said.

Roller Race Drawing on Friday. Here’s the break down

by , 24 February, 2011

Alright folks here’s how it’s going to work. Everyone is in the lottery. You have, based on your result, a weighted amount of tickets with your name on it. For example most distance covered person has a lot of tickets, least distance person has less. Of course for those of you who attempted the feat more than once you’ll get one additional ticket for each additional. All the people who learned how to ride rollers for the first time will also get an additional ticket. So everyone’s got a chance.

Ticket breakdown
1. Reed- 21 tickets
2. Griff- 18
3. Rod- 15
4. Patrick- 12
5. Kevin- 11
6. Sam- 10, first timer on rollers +1, 11 total
7. Eric- 9
8. Bill- 7, first timer +1, 8 total
9. Tony- 5, first timer +1, 6 total
10. Eddie- 4
11. Graham- 3, additional attempt +1, 4 total
12. Marc- 2, additional attempt +2, 4 total
13. Brian- 1, additional attempt +1, 2 total

And here’s what you can win.
The three picks in the lottery will receive a contender package including a musette bag, water bottle, contender cycling cap, and cafe espresso gift card.

Our one couple who ran unopposed will receive the contender prize package as well and a special couples sock kit and prize to be announced the day of the lottery.

Ok everyone, stay tuned for Friday…

Roller Race Update #7 The final result

by , 21 February, 2011

The 2011 Roller race is in the books. We had a lot of competition and a furious finish on Saturday. All in all there was sweat, tears, and some serious grit shown this year.

The drawing will be held this Friday. Remember everyone is in the drawing based on your result plus a bonus ticket for each additional attempt, a bonus ticket for the first time roller folks too. Tremendous effort everyone, I’m glad to see all the enthusiasm. I especially glad to say no one had the energy to beat me up after their ten minute effort. Although I know some wanted to. Stay tuned for the lottery…

The return of the King #2

by , 10 February, 2011

Here’s the current leader board with a few pictures from some of the contestants. A lot of interest is being generated and I think we’ve got a real ground swell going. Remember it’s almost time for the P-Ramy (Patrick Ramirez) nickname leader board. If you want in you gotta get in soon.

I know we’ve got a lot of you trainer folks wanting to test themselves and I don’t know of a better way to do it. A couple of notes, Brian Meachem is on a personal quest for 4km and got very close on Saturday and is going again this week. Also we all know Reed Wykoff is the three time champ at the roller race by distance but Kevin Van Loon is a two time at the roller race lottery. We’ve got a few defending champs out there and it’s time for a change and I want it to be you!

Current leader board
1. Reed Wykoff – 5.6km
2. Patrick Ramirez – 5.2km
3. Kevin Van Loon – 5.18km
4. Bill Sherman – 4.95km
5. Eddie Leon – 4.82km
6. Griff Jones – 4.79km
7. Graham Greenlee – 4.5km
8. Marc DiVall – 4.25km
9. Brian Meachem – 3.85km

I still haven’t seen any couples give it a go yet. Remember it’s quite the prize for the Valentines Roller couple champs. I’ll just put it out there, anybody needing a team mate I’m willing to team up. C’mon guys, life is better with a team mate!
