Rollers! Rollers! Rollers!

by , 9 February, 2011

Here’s a few chaps on rollers to wet your whistle.  The opening  ceremonies have commenced (I took a lap around 9th and 9th with the official roller race torch) and now it’s time to rock and roll.  I’ve seen some good trash talk on the blog and I want to see more.  People are lining up to give it their best shot.  So let me know when you’re coming down.

Who says you can’t wear sweatpants on rollers

Don’t watch this if you use a pacemaker!

And here’s one for all you snow bike fans out there.

Roller Race February! Valentines 2011 edition

by , 2 February, 2011

Everyone knows the Contender roller race is a fun way to sweat and compete against your buddies as well as yourself. It’s also a great way to learn something about cycling if you’ve never been on rollers before. Here’s how it works. You’ve got 10 minutes to cover as much distance as you possibly can on the rollers. You bring your bike and the desire. We’ll provide the rollers.

Now here’s the twist. February is Valentines and in celebration of that we’re adding a team category to the roller race challenge. There will also be a special prize for that team as well. So now two individuals distances will be combined to make for one result. In an effort to bring in more women participants, couples will be highly encouraged to join in. Now you can still partner up with your bros but the couples prize is going to be so awesome you’re not going to want to miss it.

Now as always the winners of the roller are always determined in a lottery style so everyone is always in the hunt. But for the teams one ticket per team will get in the lottery ticket in the pool and for the co-ed teams five tickets will go in the pool for the team competition. Here’s the breakdown.

Rider who covers the most distance- 15 tickets
2nd most distance- 13 tickets
3rd most distance- 11 tickets
and so on…

A rider will also receive one ticket for each additional attempt as well. Of course I’m always willing to give a few extra tickets for a special attempt but you gotta convince me.

The Roller race will be running from Feb.7th to the 19th. Who can enter you ask? Here’s who. Road cyclists, mountain bikers, triathletes, runners, young and old, tall people, short people, U.S. citizens, illegal aliens, introverts and extroverts. To say the least if you want to join in, we welcome you. Just email me at fitting@contenderbicycles.com or call Contender and tell me the day and time. If you don’t know how to ride rollers I welcome newcomers to learn that first week of February. That’s the skinny. I can’t wait to get it rolling. Let me know what you think.

More from Graham

by , 16 November, 2010

It seems that the Draper course isn’t everyone’s favorite but to remind you of the pain and suffering here’s video from the race. Remember The Contender Club is still currently leading the team standings so we need some serious participation to bring this one home. See you out there.

We got a win on Saturday in Ogden with Graham Greenlee taking the honors and several others doing very well in their categories too. The team standings are going to be interesting when they come out. You gotta check out the rear view to see the carnage of one unlucky racer. Trust me it’s worth it.

By the way if anyone has pics send them my way for all to see (fitting@contenderbicycles.com) and post your race reports in the comments. Great job to all those who raced and cheered. See you next time.

Greenlee’s at it again.

Not only are Ross and Graham strapping cameras to their head but now they’ve got a rear mounted one too. Check out thier footage from last week at Draper. Remember that there is still one more race there so if you haven’t done it before this is the inside scoop on the course.

This weekend the race is in Ogden at the Weber fairgrounds and we’ll be there in full force. See you there.

Who is leading the picks?

by alisonl, 12 July, 2010

Who is leading the picks? Currently, Dean is the only person to have scored 6 points having picked Cancellara for the prologue, Hushovd for Stage 3 and A. Schleck for yesterday’s stage. However there are multiple people sitting in 2nd with 4 points! Unfortunately right now I am at 0 points. However, I made a bet with Steve at The Coffee Garden that Lance wouldn’t be in the top 5 GC. Unless the Tour changes drastically, it looks like Steve will owe me 5 lattes instead of me owing Steve 3 tubes. So I might not win the picks, but at least I have a few lattes on the way!

Tour de France Fantasy Picks!

by alisonl, 29 June, 2010

It is time for the annual Tour de France Fantasy Picks. This year should be interesting with Vino supporting Contador, Lance & the Landis accusations, Valverde’s exclusion and all the drama that always happens! This year’s Tour looks to be one of the most exciting! Here are the details of the fantasy picks!

There will be points given for each correct pick for the following stages and the general classification. The points value of each stage and classification is listed in parentheses before the stage and classification. The person with the most points wins the Grand Prize Package! There will also be second and third place prize packages! In the case of a tie, the highest number of stage picks will break the tie.

Just copy the following list, list your pick for the win next to each stage and classification and post your list of picks as a comment to the blog. This way we can all follow who is leading the competition. Your picks need to be submitted by Friday night, July 2 since the Le Tour starts on Saturday, July 3!
