Gaurdsman launch delayed

by Patrick, 23 April, 2012

As we all know we had a somewhat mild winter with much less snow than the previous year. That being said I thought it was time for me to explore just how far Gaurdsman’s pass was ride-able to. I remember trying it last June and it was still a snowy brown mess. So me trying it in April now that may be pushing it. Here’s the evidence I found.

Man was there some snow there waiting for me. But I was hatching a plan.

...and that plan was to go really fast into the snow cutting a trail for all to follow

no turning back now, I'm feeling good about things...

99 problems and snow is all of them

You may have won this round snow but I aint no easy win

Make your bike work for you

by Patrick, 20 April, 2012

There’s a lot of different types and styles of bikes out there but this one is all about comfort and luxury. I’m talking about this interesting piece of engineering called the Camioncyclette transportation bike. It’s the Volkswagen van of bikes but way more creepy. If you’re like me sometimes you want to carry an entire pallet of tracker tires with you on the way to your yoga class and before I could get at most one on my shoulder and that’s it. But oh no, not any more. Or say your a busy dad who doesn’t want to drive the minivan because… well let’s be honest it’s just not that cool but you still want to somehow drive your son’s entire little league team to the game. And while you’re on the way to the game you want the option to pick up a few other dads kids too, now it’s possible. Lastly, what if you want to impress that special someone with a night out on the town, but you don’t want to pay the $3.50 for that horse carriage. Pick her up in the Camioncyclette. Nothing says I care like sitting in a wire basket while you cruise through the streets at a mind splitting 7 miles an hour. And if she gives you any attitude about the idea just say “you’re not uptight are you?” You’ll be a regular Burt Reynolds with gems like that.

You... me... Friday night... and this thing. See you at 8.

Mtb and Road bike throwbacks

by Patrick, 16 April, 2012

If you ride bikes chances are you’ve owned more than one over the years. I know I have. And every single time I got a new I’ve said to myself “this is the best bike ever. Technology will never be better than this”. I also said that about VHS players to give you some perspective. Style, shapes, and technology have changed quite a bit to say the least since my mid 90′s initial foray into cycling. Let’s take a little look down memory trail and lay some eyes on some of my favorites over the years.

This was always one of my favorites. The original Orbea Orca, in orange, with Mavic Carbones. It's a clean look. Iban Mayo made this thing fly, it also helped that he was doped up to his eye balls.

This bike turned some heads on the trail. Luckily this exact design didn't catch on, while we're on the subject I'm glad primal wear didn't either.

Dogma was slingling Magnesium before carbon. This bike had so much Italian style even Italians were like "that's-a too much eh"

The slingshot bike was a unique idea with it's missing downtube. Billy Idol always thought so.

-Ride this bike down a bumpy trail and you really will be dancing with yourself.
-I took this bike off a curb and I ended up with eyes without a face.
-It’s a nice day for a white splenectomy.

Tommeke, Tommeke, Tommeke

by alisonl, 10 April, 2012

I resisted after Flanders but I just can’t resist after Roubiax. I have to post the Tom Boonen song. Tommeke, Tommeke, Tommeke…. You have to love the Belgians and the beats…..

Don’t try this at home… or anywhere for that matter

by Patrick, 9 April, 2012

Check out this crazy video. We’ve all seen intense downhill videos before but this one’s one for the books. I recommend wearing a helmet just to watch it.

The world is going to end in 2012 anyway, might as well live it up.

Paris-Roubiax on tap

by Patrick, 4 April, 2012

It’s Roubaix time and that means drama. Who’s hot? Who’s not? We got a pretty good glimpse of who’s the strongest classics man last week in Flanders but are there any other threats out there who can mount a challenge? Last year a dark horse took the crown and this year without Cancellara the dynamic of the race will certainly be different. Who’s your pick?

Boom boom Boonen has got a target on his back, can he pull it off again?

You can expect a little of this on Sunday. Why are all the Spanish guys involved in these crashes?

I think Pozzato has got some sneaky form ready to bust out

Juan Antonia Flecha always rides a special Pinarello for Roubaix. I hope this year he takes it.

Enervit is back!

by Patrick, 2 April, 2012

We were all into this stuff like crazy a few years ago. But it left us like a girl friend on the first day of summer (editorial). Oh happy day though because it’s back on the shelves. There were rumors for a while that the factory burned down, or that the mad scientist who invented it went off the grid, or that Al Gore deemed the product unsafe for human consumption. But now it’s here and just in time for spring and summer.

If you’re not sure what exactly I’m talking about, I’m talking about the one and only Enervit Enervitene cheer pack. It’s essentially like Gu or Hammer gel but way better. First off it’s a double dose, it’s in liquid form, and has a resealable top. I know pretty much the greatest thing since curly fries. Come get yours.

How Not to Lock Your Bike

by alisonl, 1 April, 2012

Walking into the Pub last night we spotted this bike. We had to take a picture. Release the front skewer……take the whole bike…..classic example of how not to lock up your bike…
