Contender's Most Anticipated Bicycles of 2019

What makes us so excited for Pinarello's newest bikes of 2019, the Grevil and Grevil+, is that it signals a total mindset change from the storied Italian brand. Road cycling has focused intensely on racing and pure performance, while leaving behind the exploratory side that makes cycling truly special. The introduction of the Grevil gravel bike doesn't mean that they're abandoning road racing (and the Dogma line); it just means that there's finally a Pinarello that's happy to be your companion mile after mile, even when the pavement ends. What more is there to say about the Orbea Gain e-road bike? This pedal-assist road bike isn't just versatile, it offers truly smart integration of technology without diluting the road bike experience. TIME claims that their Alpe d'Huez 01, introduced last February, was “a turning point in TIME’s history”. It retained everything that sets TIME apart from the competition, but was lighter, stiffer, and a bit more agile. But we envision that their latest bike, the Alpe d'Huez 21, is going to be what everyone is going to be on. Compared to the Alpe d'Huez 01, the 21 has a more conventional wrap-around metal clamp that sits flush with the top tube, a simplified carbon fiber layup, with basalt fiber in place of Vectran in the carbon. The all-new 2019 BMC Fourstroke 01 is not afraid to get rad. Their new Race Application Dropper (RAD) offers an ultralight, integrated dropper seatpost option perfect for the heat of the battle, but it's the updated geometry that really sets this bike apart from the pack. While we expected a new BMC Fourstroke for this coming year, we certainly did not anticipate the level of innovation and progressivity with which BMC has imbued their newest cross country mountain bike. SCOTT's newest mountain bike also happens to be their most tech-laden mountain bike yet. It has enough suspension travel to make even a Baja trophy truck blush, but the SCOTT Ransom never feels overwrought or unmanageable on the trail. A new shock developed in conjunction with Fox features SCOTT's new Ramp Adjust allows riders to effectively add a volume spacer at the flip of a switch to adjust how progressive the suspension is. Sure, the all-new 2019 Orbea Oiz OMR (“Or-bae-a Oh-eeeth”) might looks similar to the previous Oiz, but under their OMR carbon frame is a truly evolved Oiz. Lighter and stiffer to match XC demands, but much plusher and more accommodating that before, too. Orbea has introduced both XC (100mm travel) and TR (120mm travel) models on the same frame and swingarm, which Orbea claims gives the bike two different personalities.
