The 3T Exploro BMW Edition is at Contender Bicycles
The BMW name is synonymous with luxury and performance automobiles, while 3T Bike is a relatively small company, even in the cycling world. But while one makes the 'Ultimate Driving Machine', and the other makes some of the finest performance-oriented bicycles around, we think that their new collaboration makes for a powerful partnership. This comes in the form of the new 3T Exploro BMW Edition gravel bike, built to the nines as BMWs typically are. Truth be told, collaborations between auto manufacturers and bicycle manufacturers have not always been entirely effective. Most of the time, the bikes used for the collaboration aren’t always all that good, ranging from well-conceived to done in poor taste. We think this is one of the best of these collaborations yet; a high-quality gravel bike, built just as we would want it, with the added value that comes with this special edition bicycle. Each bike is based on the 3T Exploro Team frameset, which we have gone into detail with HERE and HERE. We like the sporting character of the 3T Exploro, as it makes no apologies for being a gravel bike for those coming from a road bike background. This is obviously a Gerard Vroomen-designed bicycle, from the Squaero tube design found at the headtube, seattube, seatstays, and seatpost that make the bike more aerodynamic than the competition at a realistic 20 mph, to the just-right geometry that threads the needle between slow, upright, and sluggish gravel bikes and a race road bike. Few bikes offer what the Exploro does well, and this 3T for BMW looks unlike just about every other Exploro out there. Special touches on this 3T for BMW Exploro include the '3T for BMW' lettering on the seattube cluster, the iconic BMW roundel on the toptube, and exclusive paint schemes in a blue and a grey colorway.
Each collaboration BMW x 3T bike features a Shimano GRX groupset with an 11-42t cassette in the back. This is paired to the ultralight 3T Torno crankset; while we haven't gone too far into the crank, its 142 mm Q-Factor, aerodynamic design, and low weight make this one of the most interesting cranksets for a 1x drivetrain around. Elsewhere 3T have included their 3T Superergo Team Stealth handlebars and their Apto Team Stealth stem. There are also classic touches from the Brooks Cambium C17 saddles to the British brand's Cambium Rubber tape, as well as special skinwall Schwalbe G-One Allround 650b tires. We are fortunate enough to receive the first shipment of the 3T Exploro BMW Edition in the United States, and we are the exclusive distributor of this unique 3T gravel bike in this first shipment.
