If you didn’t already know (or guess), Contender Bicycles is located in the heart of Salt Lake City, Utah. The shop is blessed with excellent nearby trails that allow us to escape to the mountains whenever we want. There are just as many fast, flowy trails that reward outright speed as there are trails with tight, technical switchbacks. If there were one bike to conquer everything Utah has to offer, we think it’s the 2017 Scott Genius 920, an excellent trail bike that we are proud to offer at a truly exceptional price.
At the heart of the the Genius 920 is versatility. The Genius features a flip bolt to raise or lower the bottom bracket 8mm, as well as change the headtube angle according to terrain and rider preference. Scott also include their integrated TwinLoc remote suspension lever, which further adapts the bicycle to rider preference and trail characteristics. Flip the lever through the suspension settings (full travel, a partial travel traction mode, and a lockout setting), and instantly the bike switches between three distinct spring curves and compression dampening settings, as well as distinct amounts of travel. A long top tube and the 140mm/130mm (front and rear) suspension travel keep the bike stable over fast, rocky terrain that usually keep a bike feeling unsettled, while the 29” wheels roll fast and maintain momentum everywhere. Scott also have included an integrated chain catcher should things get too wild.
Trails around here demand a bike that excels at climbing to get to the best descents, and the Scott Genius 920 does a great job. The bike feels planted when trails face the heavens, and thanks to TwinLoc’s traction mode, efficiency is maintained without a loss of small-bump sensitivity. However, the Genius comes alive on downhills; open up the suspension and the bike inspires confidence over fast sweepers and even tighter back-and-forth switchbacks, allowing the rider to easily pick their lines without repercussion. It’s light weight means the bike is playful and effortlessly maneuverable as well.
The 2017 Scott Genius 920 is well equipped with everything a trail bike rider might want. It features a HMF grade carbon frame with an alloy swingarm, a SRAM GX1 1x drivetrain, and a Fox Transfer 150 dropper seatpost. A Fox 34 Float Performance fork and Fox NUDE shock quell even the sharpest of drops, and the Syncros TR 2.5 29” wheelset features DT Swiss internals for the hubs and are tubeless ready.
Versatility shines through for the 2017 Scott Genius 920 trail bike, a bike capable of conquering whatever lies ahead on the trail. We are proud to offer this brand-new bike priced like a beat-up demo bike, picked up at the shop or shipped direct to your door.
