Getting into mountain biking can be a daunting task for beginners. With as many brands, ideologies, and technologies as there are, cyclists have more options than ever before, and that’s before including budget. It can often be a struggle for bike shops to carry, much less stock, a “holy grail beginners bike”. However, we are happy say that we’ve found it: a highly-capable trail mountain bike that doesn’t break the bank. The 2017 Scott Genius 940 is an excellent bike, one that is immensely capable for those just starting out, or for those looking looking for an excellent value.
This full alloy 2017 Scott Genius 940 immediately looks like a lot of bike, and that’s because it is. It’s crowning feature is a Scott-specific suspension remote called TwinLoc. TwinLoc allows the rider to switch between three unique spring and compression damping curves (full travel, a partial travel traction mode, and a lockout setting) to adapt the bike to varying terrain and rider characteristics. The Fox 34 fork features 140mm travel, while the shock does a good job of using all 130mm travel to keep the bike feeling planted over rough and rocky. It’s 29” wheels roll quickly even over the most rutted trails, and Scott’s integrated chain catcher keeps things in line when things get too wild.
What makes this bike so cohesive, and such a good value is how the bike rides over all conditions. Few bikes are as versatile as the Scott Genius 940; few bikes are as easy to use off the bat as this one. While this Genius features an alloy frame and swingarm, it shares the same geometry and kinematics as it’s more endowed brethren. This means it still goes up the trails efficiently and without drama, but when the trail points downwards, the Genius soaks up roots and rocks easily to keep riders moving. Only when it’s asked to tackle the most technical downhill sections is when the bike feels out of it’s element, and in that case you’d most likely want a downhill bike anyways.
This 2017 Scott Genius 940 comes with a ton of quality parts without costing an arm and a leg. It comes with a Shimano Deore/XT drivetrain, a Fox 34 Float Rhythm fork & Fox Float Performance rear shock, and a Syncros 2.0 Dropper Seatpost. A Syncros X-25 wheelset is tubeless-ready and will keep you rolling with minimal effort.
We are extremely excited to offer the versatile 2017 Scott Genius 940 at a price that’s better than used demo mountain bike prices, direct to your door. Contact us by phone or by email at email@example.com for more information on how to get your hands on a Scott bicycle.
