Few mountain bikes are beloved at Contender Bicycles as the Scott Spark. With an extensive range of Spark mountain bikes for every need, size, and price point, the Spark is able to be as racy or as fun as the rider needs their bike to be. The middle of the road happens to be the 2017 Scott Spark 920, a trail-friendly cross-country mountain bike that carries World Championship-winning DNA, but brings it down to pricing for fit for everyone. The Scott Spark 920 has everything that you would need, and nothing that you don’t, at demo bike prices.
The magic behind the 2017 Scott Spark 920 starts at the suspension. A revised shock placement cuts weight along the top tube, stiffens up the bottom bracket area, and above else makes the shock more linear across the range. Called a trunnion-mount shock, it allows for much greater small-bump sensitivity without sacrificing mid-travel support; further, it resists bottoming out toward the end of travel, making the bike feel like it has much more travel than 120mm might suggest. A pivotless alloy swingarm further cuts weight, and improves reliability and stiffness out of the saddle. Scott also adds their TwinLoc suspension remote lever, the ideal companion for ever-changing terrain. Use TwinLoc and the bike switches between three unique spring and compression damping curves (120mm, 85mm, lockout).
In completely revamping the Scott Spark model line, Scott ensured that the new bike cornered, climbed, and descended better than before in every way. They’ve slackened the headtube to just 67 degrees, shortened the chainstays to just 428mm, and increased reach across the range, all in the name of making the bike more trail-friendly. The Scott Spark 920 feels immensely energetic across the range; climbing is a cinch thanks to excellent suspension kinematics, while the bike speeds down descents without the unsettled feeling that other lower-travel cross country bikes possess. With a lightweight Syncros XR2.5 CL wheelset featuring DT Swiss hub internals, this is absolutely a bike that makes the rider feel like a superhero.
The Scott Spark 920 might be the choice of the breed: an HMX carbon fiber frame and alloy swingarm is paired to a Shimano Deore XT/SLX 2×11 drivetrain. Further, a Fox 34 Float Performance fork with 120mm travel pairs to a Fox NUDE EVOL rear shock, and a Fox Transfer dropper seatpost raises and lowers the saddle reliably. Syncros provides their Syncros XR 2.5 29” Boost wheelset, with DT Swiss internals for strong reliability and low weight. This is a bike spec’d for cross country performance, but with a touch of trail bike preparedness. It is available in four sizes (S-XL), in a matte black with white and red accents.
We are privileged to offer the well-rounded 2017 Scott Spark 920 at an unbeatable price, delivered direct to your door. This Spark comes stock with a Shimano Deore XT/SLX 2×11 drivetrain, but can be configured with Deore XT/SLX 1×11 for the same price, or with SRAM GX Eagle 1×12 for $3399.
