Fausto Pinarello, son of founder Giovanni Pinarello, famously said that the company of his namesake had no intentions of making a disc brake model of their top-of-the-line bike, the Pinarello Dogma F10. Whether or not he was covering up the development of a disc brake model, there is no argument that disc brakes easily improve performance under all conditions. With the unexpected unveil of the Pinarello Dogma F10 Disk frameset, the company has managed to take the legendary road feel and performance of the standard model and add the reliability of disc brakes.
The Pinarello Dogma F10 Disk frameset starts with the already-excellent F10 rim brake model, and builds upon it. It again uses Toray T1100 1K Dream carbon fiber as well as their trademark asymmetric frame design to make the frame stiff where it needs to be, and just compliant enough for longer rides. To accommodate flat mount disc brakes, the Pinarello have redesigned their legendary Onda fork design to withstand the loads of discs without losing the trademark aerodynamic fork flaps and other aero gains. This is complemented by new 12mm thru axles front and rear, which provide an even stiffer pedaling platform. Despite these changes, claimed frameset weights are nearly the same as those of the rim brake model.
Besides the addition of rim brakes, all other design features remain. Besides asymmetric frame design and the Onda fork, the Pinarello Dogma F10 Disk frameset features E-Link integration, allowing for a Shimano Di2 junction box to be neatly tucked into the downtube. It also maintains their Fastback seatstays and concave downtube design for superior aerodynamics, as well as an Italian-threaded bottom bracket, a Pinarello frame hallmark. Most importantly, the frameset maintains that same legendary ride quality that distinguishes this bike from the pack. The Dogma F10 Disk still climbs like a bat out of hell, and it has a sense of composure in tight corners that is calm on descents, yet is perfectly agile under pressure. Few bikes match this multi-dimensional capability, which is why it is no wonder that Pinarello have won so many Tours and
While unexpected following Fausto Pinarello’s comments, the Pinarello Dogma F10 Disk frameset manages to maintain the light weight and world-class capability of the rim brake model but melds it to the all-condition reliability of disc brakes without compromise. The cumulation of these efforts is a purposeful race frameset that places efficiency at the forefront to make one of the most well-rounded and efficient bicycles in the world. It is available in 11 sizes (44-62 cm), in five colorways: 915 Mars Orange, 916 Black Lava, 917 Black on Black, 918 Red Magma, and 920 Team Sky. It is also available through their custom MyWay paint program.
