Let’s imagine for a moment the ideal cross country mountain bike. It wouldn’t be too flashy, but it would have one of the best performing frames on the market. The parts have to be quality, but must have a reasonable cost should they need to be replaced. This cross country bike needs to be an efficient climber, but cannot sacrifice climbing ability for stability on descents. Low weight is key, but it should absolutely feel solid everywhere. Put all of those attributes together, and immediately the Scott Spark RC 900 Pro comes to mind.
The Spark RC Pro starts life with Scott’s HMX-level carbon frame. This makes for a feather-light cross country frame when coupled with the carbon swingarm, hardware, and trunnion-mount rear shock. This updated shock placement allows for impressive small-bump compliance, but it also allows the shock to be tuned to resist bottoming out much better than before, thus making the Spark RC feel like it has much more than 100mm rear suspension travel. Further, it allows the swingarm to be pivotless at the dropouts. This means stiffness out of the saddle is improved, while cutting weight. Scott pair this to their TwinLoc suspension remote lever, allowing riders to adapt the bike to terrain using three unique suspension settings (full travel, traction mode for climbing, lockout). TwinLoc is actuated by cleverly hidden cabling to give the bike a stealthy no-cable look, which along with low weight (23.15 lb complete) and a stiffer pedaling platform, make for a faster, more efficient Scott Spark RC 900 Pro.
It’s definitely one thing for a company like Scott to tout new technologies, but it means nothing if there aren’t results; we are happy to say that with the Scott Spark RC 900 Pro, the results are obvious. Take it on a steep climb up the trail, and seemingly combines the great climbing ability of a hardtail mountain bike with the compliance of a full suspension bike. Once speeds pick up and the corners tighten up, longer overall reach and the relatively slack 68.5 degree head tube angle mean the Spark RC Pro feels none of the nervousness that lesser cross country mountain bikes fail to avoid. It really is surprising the amount of speed the bike carries all over the place; the Spark RC Pro rewards the rider for uphill effort with balance, precision, and rider confidence.
Scott mountain bikes have always been about excellent frame design, but the Scott Spark RC 900 Pro comes with excellent kit for the money. A SRAM X01/GX Eagle 12-speed group brings a wide-range one-by shifter; a Fox 32 Stepcast Float Performance Elite fork and Fox NUDE rear shock manage terrain with great aplomb. A Syncros XR 2.0 29er wheelset, with a Syncros bar/stem/seatpost/saddle keep weight down and durability high. The Spark RC Pro is available in four sizes (S-XL), in a black and yellow colorway with grey accents.
With excellent spec, fantastically low weight, and similar performance to its more-endowed siblings, we are extremely happy to offer the Scott Spark RC 900 Pro. If you have any questions, contact us by phone during business hours, or send an email anytime to firstname.lastname@example.org.
