Nino Schurter needs no introduction. Through his years riding Scott bikes, they’ve developed a unique relationship that truly defines what it means for an athlete to work in conjunction with a development team to create a bike refined by competition, trial and error. The most recent fruit of their collaborative labors is the Scott Spark. The new Spark was developed just in time to dominate the 2016 Rio Olympics, resulting in two Olympic Gold medals, two World Championships titles, and a World Cup win. Thanks to Schurter’s input and Scott’s continued development, the world saw one of the most influential runs in pro mountain biking ever. For those who want the very best that was afforded to Nino himself, we offer you the 2018 Scott Spark RC 900 World Cup.
The 2018 Scott Spark RC 900 World Cup uses the same championship-winning HMX carbon frame and swingarm as the 2017 model, except this is set up to more closely resemble Nino’s championship machine. Nino desired smoothness at the beginning of the rear shock’s travel while ramping up stiffness through the travel to prevent bottoming out. As such, Scott completely redesigned the shock to mount on the downtube. Doing so allows the suspension to react exactly how he wanted it, while cutting weight down to a class-leading 1779 g for a frame, swingarm, shock and hardware. Scott also managed to increase platform stiffness across the board by switching to a pivotless rear swingarm with seatstays that are designed to flex.
To say that Scott and Nino Schurter don’t know what they’re doing would be blasphemous – and it’s obvious how much know-how they have from how the bike handles. The Scott RC World Cup seriously undercuts the competition on weight, which is apparent by how agile it feels. Every watt of power goes straight into forward momentum thanks to the Spark RC’s efficient swingarm design. It climbs like a crazed mountain goat, but it handles even more technical trails with surprising aplomb. While Nino appreciates the work done to keep the headtube nice and short, everyone will assuredly appreciate the slackened headtube, which keeps steering predictable and smooth – perfect for more technical cross-country courses.
The rest of the new Spark RC World Cup comes fit for a champion. It comes equipped with a 100mm Rockshox SID RLC Air fork and a Fox Nude rear shock, while a SRAM XX1 Eagle drivetrain complements the supreme abilities the Spark has to offer. The DT Swiss X1825 Spline CL wheelset furthers the Spark RC World Cup’s claim as one of the best bikes available today, and SRAM Level TLM brakes stop you as effortlessly as the bike carries speed.
The 2018 Scott Spark RC World Cup is a cross-country machine that has propelled the winningest riders to the podium, but is a supremely capable bike for the rest of us.
