There is a simplicity to the design aesthetic of the BMC brand that certainly applies to their latest release with the Fourstroke 01. Don’t let that fool you. The new Fourstroke features progressive geometry changes with a proprietary and disruptive dropper post design. If you are looking for a true cross-country race machine that has slacker angles, look no further than the 2019 BMC Fourstroke 01 THREE.
BMC employees their Big Wheel Concept along with taking a radical approach to cross-country geometry which lends itself to a fast and progressive riding style. We don’t need to cut BMC any slack since slacker angles for cross-country riding now is the norm. The bike features intelligent engineering to optimize cable routing and frame protection. Made of BMC’s 01 Premium Carbon for both the front and rear triangle, BMC takes lightweight seriously when it comes to cross-country riding.
Of course we always want to keep it radical on the bike and BMC helps accomplish this with their proprietary and cross-country specific Race Application Dropper (RAD) design for this progressive dropper post integration. Low air pressure and no hydraulics simplifies this design but in turn refines your typically over-engineered standard dropper design. This increases the durability and in turn longevity of your typical dropper post. At 345 grams, this oval shaped post increases strength while shedding grams. It only has 80 mm of drop with a two-position adjustment but for a bike geared for optimal cross-country riding just might be the ideal set up in xc. The design clamps the post at the bottom of the seat tube. This not only eliminates the negative effects on performance of clamping with a traditional seatpost clamp but also allows a light seat tube to be designed.
The THREE features the same rear and front shock as the TWO with respectively the Fox Float DPS, Performance Elite, Evol, Remote (100mm) and Fox Float 32 SC, Performance, Grip, Remote (100mm), 15x110mm thru-axle. Built with BMC’s highest end carbon, the upper link saves 40 grams compared to aluminum while also giving a stiffer connection. With a SRAM GX Eagle drivetrain and Shimano SLX Brakes, BMC has picked componentry that optimizes performance versus weight versus price. Add a DT Swiss X1700 Spline wheelset and you are good to go!
