How much technology can be packed into a hardtail mountain bike? Quite a bit, as BMC reveals with their Teamelite. Combining maximum efficiency, minimum weight, and surprising compliance was generally a fight of “want three, pick two” – until now. BMC claims the 2019 BMC Teamelite 01 TWO hardtail is the world’s most technically-advanced hardtail mountain bike around, and we have little reason to doubt them.
The piece de resistance of the Teamelite is BMC’s Micro Travel Technology (MTT). With this new system, cross-country racers can ditch the common practice of manipulating tire pressure to gain more compliance for technical descents. MTT’s damping and additional frame compliance smoothes out the ride, letting riders apply more power to gain that elusive differentiator; speed.
Simply adding compliance to the rear end of the bike was not sufficient – but to do so without loss of drivetrain efficiency, torsional rigidity, or steering responsiveness was near rocket-science. The end results are icing on the cake; virtually no weight penalty and incredibly low maintenance. Micro-Travel Technology function is the result of the engineered performance of the chainstays and seatstays through complex carbon layups and the dual-guide, integrated XCell damper.
The 2019 BMC Teamelite 01 TWO features an 01 premium carbon frame and Fox Float 32 SC Performance Elite with a FIT4 damper. A Shimano XT Di2 drivetrain, Shimano XT brakes, and DT Swiss XR 1501 Spline ONE wheels set the Teamelite up for success. Vittoria Barzo TNT 29×2.1″ tires, Fizik Antares R7 saddle, and BMC carbon and alloy cockpit complete the package. Teamelite is available in five sizes (XS-XL).
