While originally introduced as a cyclocross bike, one look at the features and geometry set of the Cannondale SuperX makes it easy to see how well the bike would work as a cyclocross bike. It is geared toward high speed stability, it clears a 40c tire, and it has the requisite geometry necessary to make the SuperX a compelling high-speed gravel bike option. Set up within the SE line, the 2019 Cannondale SuperX SE Force 1 becomes an excellent choice that blends on-road manners and off-road capability.
The SuperX uses a full carbon frame and fork with internal cable/hose routing for everything.
BallisTec carbon construction (just as is used on their mountain bikes), System Integrated cranks. An Ai dish rear wheel allows super short chainstays but plenty of clearance for up to a 40c tire. Rear end also features the SAVE Micro-Suspension technology in the rear triangle to help the bike track through rough terrain and keep the power down on the trails.
Cannondale does quite a bit to tout their OutFront Steering Geometry, which pairs a relatively high fork rake (55mm) with a slack head angle. Compared to the competition, the SuperX also features longer reach, shorter chainstays a lower bottom bracket, all in the hope of applying lessons from mountain bikes to increase stability. As such, the SuperX tracks well at high speeds over choppy gravel, as well as good stability on technical descents without sacrificing much (if anything) at lower speeds. Likewise, the tucked rear wheel means a lot of weight over the back end when climbing, aiding in traction when things get loose and steep.
The 2019 Cannondale SuperX SE Force 1 bike features a BallisTec carbon frame, a SRAM Force 1 drivetrain, and a WTB KOM Light i21 TCS clincher wheelset. A Cannondale HollowGram Si crankset ties together the Cannondale SAVE carbon seatpost, a Cannondale alloy bar and stem, and WTB Ridder 37c tire. The SuperX is available in six sizes (46 – 61 cm).
