Those familiar with Cannondale know that the American brand plays by their own rulebook. Between the Lefty fork, trailblazing development in aluminum and carbon fiber, and their success in racing, Cannondale does everything they can to ensure they offer the best bike for cyclists. And with the new SuperSix, the trend continues. Cannondale claims the 2019 Cannondale SystemSix Carbon Dura Ace road bike is “the fastest road bike in the world”, and with it’s aero design and integrated technology, we have no reason to believe otherwise.
Starting at the core of the bike, the frame, fork, seatpost, bar, stem and wheels were designed together as a holistic system to improve speed, comfort, and stiffness where it matters most. They done it with through careful CFD and wind tunnel testing, which leads to an angular bike with truncated airfoils in every tube. The fork, designed to fit a 30mm effective tire with room to spare, flows neatly into the headtube and downtube. The downtube where the fork meets forces airflow upward. The downtube features two different water bottle mounts for the most aero water bottle position possible. Similarly, the headtube offers an aero design that creates an opening for brake cable and Di2 wiring. Sleek, integrated, and well-designed routing defines the SystemSix.
Cannondale didn’t just stop at the frame to make the bike as efficient as possible; they looked at every point possible. Disc brake-only design allows for greater optimization of the rest of the bike. Cannondale worked with HED wheels for their HollowGram KNOT 64 carbon wheels. At 64mm deep front and rear with a 21mm internal width, it offers potential for lower inflation pressures, greater comfort, and improved grip. The 32mm external width optimizes aerodynamics for a 26mm effective-width tire tire. Other neat features include Speed Release Thru-Axles, an included Power2Max crank-based power meter, and a built-in Garmin mount.
The 2019 Cannondale SystemSix Carbon Dura Ace aero road bike uses Cannondale’s carbon frame and fork, and pairs it to a Shimano Dura Ace mechanical hydraulic drivetrain. A HollowGram KNOT 64 carbon wheels with DT Swiss internals pairs to a Cannondale HollowGram SiSL2 crankset Vision Metreon 4D Flat carbon bars, Vision Trimax OS 2014 stem, and KNOT carbon seatpost. A Prologo Dimension saddle finishes the build. The SystemSix Hi-MOD Ultegra Di2 is available in seven sizes (47-62 cm), in their Volt with Jet Black – Gloss colorway.
