If you’re Goldilocks and need to find the ideal road bike, Cervelo likely has you covered. The S-series of bikes provides quick handling and impressive aerodynamics, the C-series is geared toward long-distance comfort, and the R series is your climber’s bike. The R series splits again; what if you want low weight AND a distance-optimized position? That’s the 2019 Cervelo R3 Rim Ultegra Di2, which offers low weight, impressive tech, and a focus on comfort and road feel.
The newest generation of the Cervelo R3 has received some major updates. It’s now as stiff as the previous-generation Cervelo R5, a WorldTour-worthy bicycle in its own right. They’ve also managed to make the R3 ten percent lighter than before thanks to refined carbon layups. But the key to the puzzle is revised geometry and ride quality. Positioning is a touch taller than the R5, but still more aggressive than most endurance road bikes. The bottom bracket is slightly lower than before too, with longer chainstays. This gives it lighter steering than the R5, but a planted feel through high-speed corners that was absent from previous R-series models. It’s an all-rounder that is an excellent choice for the Goldilocks in us all.
The 2019 Cervelo R3 Rim Ultegra Di2 features the R3 carbon frame and fork, and pairs it to a Shimano Ultegra R8000 mechanical drivetrain. Novatec R3 Carbon wheels, Cervelo carbon seatpost, Cervelo alloy bars and stem, and a Prologo Zero II STN saddle complete the build. R3 is available in six sizes (48-61 cm).
