The 2020 Cannondale Scalpel-Si Carbon 3 is much more than a cross-country bike; it can handle some seriously rough terrain thanks to its System Integration (Si) design. Starting with its BallisTec Carbon frame, this bike is super light and super stiff and gives you the traction and agility you need to aggressively hit the trails. By using an Asymmetric Integration Offset Drivetrain (Ai), the Cannondale Scalpel-Si Carbon 3 gives you a stiffer, stronger rear wheel for killer traction. Shorter chainstays make this Ai possible, moving the chainrings and the front derailleur 6mm outside, then shifting the rear triangle over to match, all without losing tire clearance.
Cannondale rarely does things traditionally, the Lefty fork being their main example. This one looks just as disfigured as your older one, but it looks much more svelte. This new fork, called the Cannondale Lefty Ocho, removes the previous dual-crown for setup for a single crown fork and a standard tapered headset. Added in is a move from three to four roller bearings, which Cannondale say reduces dynamic friction (during movement) by 75%, and static friction is cut by a whopping 141% compared to a Rockshox SID or a Fox 32 Stepcast fork, while making the fork lighter than a comparable Rockshox SID fork. You love how sensitive your old Lefty fork is to small bumps, but this one take it up a notch; it feels surprisingly progressive in firmness as it goes deeper into the travel. The fork is lighter, more adjustable, and higher-performing than ever, and offers very direct steering like the very best Lefty forks.
The Cannondale LOCKR Pivot System is specifically designed to simplify, lighten, and strengthen the bike. It uses an expanding thru-axle to locks the two sides of the swingarm together giving it a more stable feel while also saving on weight, no special tools required. The bike also features Cannondale’s new interchangeable cable guide inserts for different cable set-ups with housing locks to keep the cables in place. Plus it has a System Integrated Di2 battery compartment that fits into the top tube so you can run a dropper post and a Di2 battery in unison.
The 2020 Cannondale Scalpel-Si Carbon 3 is available in four sizes (S-XL). The carbon fiber frameset pairs to a Cannondale Lefty Ocho 100mm suspension fork, Fox Float DPS Performance EVOL rear shock, a GX Eagle drivetrain, and SRAM Level T brakes. A Cannondale HollwoGram 23 wheelset is highlighted by a Cannondale carbon seatpost and alloy cockpit. Plenty of bike for all of the trails you like to do, and a worthy successor to your old bike.
