Not everyone wants to race, nor does everyone want the bleeding edge of handling for their road bike. More than anything, the average road cyclist wants a bike that will encourage them to ride longer, and feel stronger than the ride before. Cannondale, always a company to push the envelope when it comes to bicycle design, have sought to do just that with the new Cannondale Synapse. With a ton of built-in comfort features built for endurance riding, 2020 Cannondale Synapse Carbon Disc Women’s 105 is the de-facto choice for women looking to ride the extra mile.
Cannondale have worked hard to refine the basic Synapse formula: make it more comfortable than before, but ensure that it is stiff, light, and efficient. Their trump card is their Synapse Active Vibration Elimination (SAVE) system, something Cannondale have developed over the past few iterations of the Synapse. Simply put, SAVE features engineered flex zones within the frame and fork to take the edge off choppy roads. At the same time, they’ve lightened and stiffened the bike; Cannondale claim a standard carbon frame weighs in at just 1100 grams, while headset stiffness is up nearly 10%. This holistic approach allows the Synapse to be stiff exactly where it needs to be (through the downtube and bottom bracket area), but with just enough give to be smooth over an all-day ride.
One ride on the 2020 Synapse, and it’s easy to understand why Cannondale went to the lengths they did to engineer this bike. With size specific tubing profiles, head tubes, and steer tube diameters, the Synapse rides just as intended for every size range: smoothly, without isolating the rider from enjoying the ride. It manages to feel zippy like a road bike, but not beat the rider up over a long ride.
The 2020 Cannondale Synapse Carbon Disc Women’s 105 is a revelation in endurance road bikes; its precise handling feels as good as any race bike, but it’s isolating ride quality leaves riders comfortable all-day. This model features a Shimano 105 drivetrain with a Cannondale Si crankset using compact (50/34) gearing and an 11-32 cassette. It uses an RD 2.0 wheelset and a women’s specific handlebar and saddle. It is available in four sizes (44-54 cm).
