Cyclists come in all shapes, sizes, and preferences. Some want to go fast on the road, others want to go fast on the dirt, and some prefer to not go fast at all. More than anything, most cyclists just want a bike that will encourage them to ride longer, and feel stronger than the ride before. With a ton of built-in comfort features built for endurance riding, the 2020 Cannondale Synapse Carbon Disc Women’s Tiagra is a smart choice for looking to ride the extra mile with the comfort of a flat handlebar.
Cannondale have worked hard to refine the basic Synapse formula: make it more comfortable than before, but ensure that it is stiff, light, and efficient. Their trump card is their Synapse Active Vibration Elimination (SAVE) system, something Cannondale have developed over the past few iterations of the Synapse. Simply put, SAVE features engineered flex zones within the frame and fork to take the edge off choppy roads. At the same time, they’ve lightened and stiffened the bike; Cannondale claim a standard carbon frame weighs in at just 1100 grams, while headset stiffness is up nearly 10%. This holistic approach allows the Synapse to be stiff exactly where it needs to be (through the downtube and bottom bracket area), but with just enough give to be smooth over an all-day ride.
One ride on the 2020 Synapse, and it’s easy to understand why Cannondale went to the lengths they did to engineer this bike. With size specific tubing profiles, head tubes, and steer tube diameters, the Synapse rides just as intended for every size range: smoothly, without isolating the rider from enjoying the ride. They’ve extended this focus to improve overall tire clearance, as the bike can now fit up to a 32c tire with clearance to spare. As such, the new Synapse quells a substantial amount of road vibrations over choppy surfaces, and the wide tire combines with disc brakes to keep the bike feeling surefooted regardless of terrain. It feels surprisingly spry and light on its feet through the corners for an endurance road bike, with enough of a performance edge to feel that every ounce of energy put into the pedals translates into forward momentum.
The 2020 Cannondale Synapse Carbon Disc Women’s Tiagra is a revelation in endurance road bikes; its precise handling feels as good as any race bike, but it’s isolating ride quality leaves riders comfortable all-day. This model features a ten speed Shimano Tiagra drivetrain using compact (50/34T) gearing, an 11-34 cassette, and hydraulic disc brakes. It uses an RD 3.0 wheelset. It is available in sizes 48cm – 61cm.
