The 29er trail bike is perhaps the bread-and-butter of the mountain bike world. It’s made to be a do-all trail bike, with neutral handling, decent climbing ability, and just enough suspension travel to not scare you on every descent. This makes the introduction of the new 2020 Juliana Joplin C trail bike all the more important; good thing their new bike is more capable than ever.
At the heart of every Juliana full-suspension MTB is their VPP suspension. The Joplin moves to a lower-link-mounted shock, found on the longer-legged Maverick and Roubion. It creates a nearly linear leverage curve, giving the Joplin the same gene pool as the Santa Cruz V10 DH bike! Besides that, you’ll find a flip-chip at the shock and adjustable dropouts on the carbon models. This adjustable dropout offers a choice of 430-440 mm chainstay lengths. Set your bike up for play or for stability, and the Joplin responds in kind. This is paired to Juliana’s C-grade carbon frame. Those looking for a lighter option should look at the Joplin CC, which cuts about 250 grams (1/2 a pound) over the Joplin C.
Joplin is a bike designed to sit right between the ultralight XC bikes on the market and enduro bruisers of the market. This is a bike that wants to work well for everyone, climbers and descenders alike. A 130 mm fork pairs with a 120 mm rear suspension to provide a just-right amount of suspension. Additionally, Juliana now builds the bike with a slightly longer wheelbase than before, a two-degree slacker head angle, clearance for a 29 x 2.6″ tire, and a slight increase in reach in all sizes, all in the effort to increase riding stability. And about sizes: the Joplin is available in Juliana’s first-ever XS size.
The Juliana Joplin C is available in three sizes (XS-MD) in two build kits with 29er wheels:
-Juliana Joplin C R – Fox Rhythm 34 130mm fork, Fox Float Performance DPS 120mm shock, SRAM NX Eagle drivetrain, SRAM Guide T brakes, Race Face Aeffect dropper seatpost, and WTB ST i25 rims to SRAM MTH 746 hubs. It retails for $4199.
-Juliana Joplin C S – Fox 34 Float Performance 130mm fork, Fox Float Performance DPS 120mm shock, SRAM GX Eagle w/10-50t cassette, SRAM GX Eagle 32t crankset, SRAM Guide R brakes, Rock Shox Reverb Stealth dropper seatpost, and Race Face AR 27 rims to DT Swiss 370 hubs. It retails for $4999.
All Joplin C bikes use Maxxis Minion DHF/Minion DHR tires in 29 x 2.3″ width, though Joplin carbon frames can fit up to a 29 x 2.6″ tire. Juliana offers a lifetime warranty for each frameset they sell. Like all Julianas, the Joplin receives women’s specific touchpoints as well as a lighter shock tune.
