Let’s face it, if you’re looking for a long-travel mountain bike or a 27.5” enduro bike, there are few bikes better than the Santa Cruz Nomad. Now in its fourth iteration, the Nomad is a go-to bike for those looking for a bike that can handle bike park lift service and shuttle laps with ease, but still feel manageable on fully-supported rides. Pump it through rollers, pop it off ledges, the 2020 Santa Cruz Nomad A is ready to go as fast as you want.
The Santa Cruz Nomad features a burly aluminum frame with the same geometry as it’s carbon siblings. Santa Cruz then uses their lower-link VPP suspension found on just about every Santa Cruz mountain bike. This suspension, based off of the Santa Cruz V10 downhill bike, makes the Nomad a great choice for steep trails, high speeds, and plenty of ledges at the bike park or on the trail. Part of that capability is a flip-chip in the linkage to adjust suspension progressivity. Combine this with a 65-degree headtube angle and 1,200mm + wheelbase and the Nomad suddenly looks like a bike that can shred descents without being miserable on climbs. This new setup is designed to work with standard air shock or a metric coil shock to further accentuate the Nomad’s versatility.
While the Nomad is not a good cross-country bike, the Nomad really excels in loose, steep trails. With a coil shock the bike can handle your rugged downhill trail, but even with an air shock the bike is smooth, confident and grippy. Just set up your suspension and go ride your favorite trails, regardless of whether or not you use a shuttle.
