The gravel road bike genre is still relatively new, but there are two distinct sides that have emerged: bikes that are designed to plod along with MTB tires in exploration, and bikes that are designed to glide down dirt roads as fast as possible. The 2020 SCOTT Addict Gravel 10 gravel bike belongs in the latter category, as its low weight, excellent stiffness, and responsive handling make for a bike geared toward efficiency.
The Addict Gravel shares a frame with the Addict CX, which means this top-grade HMX carbon frame is lighter than many road bikes. SCOTT also claims that this low weight pairs with increased headtube and downtube stiffness to ensure every watt is transmitted to forward motion. They’ve also paid attention to ensure a 700 x 40c tire fits with plenty of clearance, but have kept geometry in tact to ensure the bike feels just as zippy as its low weight implies. And while the Addict Gravel shares a frame with the CX, its geometry is in line with other sporty gravel bikes.
Just looking at the oversized chainstays, big downtube, and substantial fork shows that the Addict Gravel is designed to be efficient. We’d go as far to say that it feels as efficient as many standard road bikes, with slightly slower steering (for improved stability over gravel) as well as the additional comfort of a wider tire. Its a bike designed to go fast in a segment where few bikes focus on it.
The 2020 SCOTT Addict Gravel 10 gravel bike features an ultralight HMX carbon frame and fork, and pairs it to a Shimano GRX group and a Syncros Carbon Disc wheelset. Carbon and alloy Syncros components and a Schwalbe G-ONE Allround 700 x 35c tire finish the build. The Addict Gravel is available in five sizes (XS/49 – XL/58 cm).
