The SCOTT Spark is known if anything for efficiency. With suspension performance is continually among the best in class and the addition of a dropper post, wider tires, and slacked-out geometry, the 2020 SCOTT Spark 940 trail bike takes the best of its XC-racing sibling and the trail bike capability of the Genius.
Someone responsible with the development of this generation’s SCOTT Spark said that it was developed with cross country DNA, but bred amongst trail bikes. It features a trunnion-mount style not only promises greater small-bump sensitivity, but it also ramps up as more travel is used to prevent the 120mm shock from bottoming out. A pivotless alloy swingarm cuts weight and improves reliability and further stiffness out of the saddle. SCOTT also adds their TwinLoc suspension remote lever, the ideal companion for ever-changing terrain. Co-developed with Fox, this lever toggles between three distinct suspension settings (open, traction, lockout), each with its own spring compression and damping settings to adapt the bike to any type of situation it might have in front of it. Add in a swap to a 44mm-offset fork and clearance for a 29 x 2.6” tire, and you have the makings for a truly versatile bike for a myriad of trails.
If both climbing and descending are a priority, and only one bike can do it, the 2019 SCOTT Spark 940 is the correct choice. It features a alloy frame and swingarm, a Shimano XT-SLX 12-speed drivetrain, a Fox 34 Rhythm fork, a Fox NUDE EVOL rear shock, and a Syncros Duncan 2.0 dropper seatpost. A Syncros Silverton 2.5 wheelset is employed to keep the bike rolling ahead, Shimano SLX brakes slow the party down when appropriate, and Syncros parts complete the bike. This iteration of the Spark 940 is available in four sizes (S-XL).
