Nino Schurter wins just about every race he enters in professional cross-country racing. His preferred bike, the SCOTT Spark, is newly adapted for pedal assist life. With similar geometry and specs, and a built in Shimano STEPS E8000 drive unit, everyone can climb mountains with the same verve and power as World Champion Nino.
All SCOTT Spark eRide frames are based around an alloy frame, but get a few key changes to ensure the bike handles like the standard Spark, just adapted for ebike use. The STEPS E8000 drive unit is more compact than the competition, and offers a q-factor the same as a standard bike, allowing the Spark eRide to share similar suspension kinematics, reach and stack numbers, and geometry to the standard Spark. For 2020, SCOTT have upgraded the Spark eRide with an improved guard that protects both the drive unit and battery regardless of riding conditions. Twinloc also is used here to full effect; a handlebar lever controls both the shock and the fork, and between Open, Descend, and Lockout, there is a setting to maximize your pedalling efficiency on any trail. The 2020 Spark eRide fits both 29 and 27.5” plus tires, and geometry is a little more aggressive than the Strike eRide.
The Shimano STEPS E8000 drive unit is proven to be torquey, reliable, and smooth, making it an excellent companion on the trial. 70Nm of torque and 250W power come smoothly and without drama, and the 504 Wh battery ensures plenty of juice for a myriad of rides. A speed sensor is integrated into rear wheel by the dropout, which is done to offer consistent and accurate system readings. Perhaps best of all is the small display Shimano offers; the Di2-like display on the handlebar is compact, but easy to understand, read and use.
The 2020 SCOTT Spark eRide 920 is based around 29” wheels and an alloy frame and swingarm. A RockShox Recon fork offers 130mm travel, while a X-Fusion rear shock offer 120mm of suspension travel. A SRAM SX Eagle 12 speed drivetrain offer plenty of range to get up every hill, while Shimano BR-MT420 4-piston disc brakes ensure proper stopping power at every descent. A Syncros X-30S wheelset, a Syncros dropper seatpost, Syncros touchpoints, and Maxxis Rekon 29 x 2.6” tires complete the bike. The Spark eRide is available in four sizes (S-XL).
