One of the most interesting parts of the 3T Strada road bike is the divisive 1x drivetrain. 3T saw that real performance gains are to be made in eliminating a chainring and front derailleur, be it in weight or in simplicity. They designed the bike with full belief that this is how road bikes will look five years from now. However, they also knew that there would be some push back from consumers and racers alike for a bike with a 2x drivetrain, and so they’ve released the 3T Strada Team Due Frameset, which offers the same benefits of the original Strada, with the 2x drivetrain you’re used to.
Enter the 3T Strada Due. It offers similar aerodynamic and comfort benefits as the standard 1x bike, but now offers the flexibility of a 2x drivetrain. A 2x drivetrain takes out some of the guesswork from figuring out what type of gear range someone might want on the road, and it works for riders who prefer spinning and the like. 3T have proven the concept of 1x on the road, as Aqua Blue Sport rode sponsored 3T Stradas to notable wins like the King of the Mountain competition in the 2018 Tour de Suisse. However, there are many who prefer a road double; the Strada Due allows riders to take advantage of the bike’s many benefits on and off the trail.
The Due gets a slight change to the carbon layup to around the front derailleur to stiffen it; otherwise, the bike has the same geometry and frame design as the standard frameset. Claimed frame weight is 1005g in a size medium, or about 35g heavier than the standard frame; with the front derailleur, shifter, and chainrings, the Due adds about two-thirds of a pound over the standard Strada and 8 watts in overall drag. This frameset is only compatible with electronic drivetrains, but works with Shimano Di2, SRAM RED eTap, and Campagnolo EPS.
Besides that, the Strada Due has the goods. Aero frame elements are designed to save watts at both 20 and 30 miles an hour while maintaining excellent comfort and handling characteristics. Disc brakes and smart frame design allow for a 30mm tire, the ultimate way to add ride compliance. The Strada itself is designed to be the one road bike you need; it’ll perform just as well in the heat of the peloton as it is at the end of a rough century ride.
The 3T Strada Team Due Frameset comes in five sizes (XS-XL), in a gloss primer grey with black logos. Prices start at $3800, and come with the frame, 3T Fundi disc fork, 3T Charlie Strada seapost, Syntace X-12 thru axles, and headset.
