For most things, sixty-four years isn’t much to celebrate. But for Colnago, there’s plenty to celebrate. Always keen to celebrate any type of occasion, Ernesto Colnago has brought forth it’s newest form of celebration, the Colnago C64 Disc frameset.
Colnago’s newest road bike uses a mix of old and new, but is a substantial 270 grams lighter than it’s predecessor, the Colnago C60 Disc. Once again, the latest and greatest from Colnago adheres to a lugged frame design. This time around, they’ve combined the seat tube and seat tube lug to make one continuous piece, where they claim improved ride quality and overall comfort. But the newly-asymmetric chainstays, a redesigned headtube lug, and ribbed steerer tube offer additional stiffness and much more-precise handling. Colnago uses with their ThreadFit82.5, which combines BB30 stiffness rigidity and the durability of a threaded bottom bracket; this time around, Colnago partnered with Ceramic Speed to offer best in-class bearing performance. Add in ample clearance for a 28c tire, and there’s little to hold you back on any ride you do.
Few lugged road bikes can ever be considered aerodynamic, but the C64 Disc is certainly unique in that regard. A reshaped downtube offers a bit more of a teardrop design, and the downtube bottle cage mount is recessed, like that on a Pinarello Dogma. As always, it features it’s spine construction for optimal stiffness and direct handling.
What’s surprising about the C64 Disc is how race-ready it feels. Geometry is slightly less-aggressive than what one would find on the Colnago Concept or V2r, but it’s still clearly a WorldTour-worthy bike. Slightly heavier than the C64, but a stiffer rear end than the rim brake model, more direct handling, and legendary build quality make the C64 Disc one of the best road bikes money can buy.
The Colnago C64 Disc frameset features a frame, matching fork, headset, and carbon fiber seatpost. C64 is available in a class-leading fourteen sizes, (42-60 cm) in both traditional and sloping geometry options, in six colorways.
