Ah, the allure of Italian cycling culture. Espresso with a strong helping of la Maglia Rosa, and a sport full of drama and passion. A sport not just embedded deep into modern Italian culture, but forcibly carved into every part of the climb up Stelvio Pass. There may be other countries that carry a formidable cycling culture, but Italy has done more for cycling culture than any other country. Our “dedica”, or tribute, to the culture is the Contender G.S. Retro Jersey. Never out of place on a ride, this short sleeve road jersey is excellent for your next jaunt up Big Mountain or through L’Eroica in Tuscany.
You’re probably wondering what’s G.S. stands for. In Italian, it stands for a gruppo sportivo (literally, means sports group), which unites cyclists working toward fueling their passion for cycling. This dedica to Italian culture features a race cut made by Vermarc, in the Vermarc Essential Line. In short, it’s light enough for a warm summer but works wonderfully in Fall-Spring weather with a light baselayer. Fit is a race cut hybrid of sorts, not so tight as to constrict the body outside of a low and aero position, but tight enough to not flap in the wind and cause excess friction.
The Contender G.S. Retro Jersey is available in six sizes (XS-XXL), with variations for both Salt Lake City (SLC) and Park City (PC) in a retro red; not as red as the photo, and a bit more aged-looking.
