The Giro Empire shoe is an institution, combining the best performance technology on the market with an ultralight lace that allows for a tailored, slipper-like feel on the bike. After myriad iterations and several companies trying to match the Empire formula, Giro ups the ante once more with an updated Giro Empire SLX Cycling Shoe. This new shoe breathes better, is more durable than before, but keeps with the formula that makes the Empire so popular.
Giro wanted to make a full-featured shoe that rivals the minimalist designs of Empire and Prolight Techlace in weight but can regularly stand the rigors of pro-level training and riding. The key here starts with it’s Synchwire upper. Synchwire, paired to the thermal-welded Teijin TPU adds structural support exactly where it’s needed, and adds durability everywhere without sacrificing the breathability of a mesh upper. With Giro’s lace-up retention system, the Giro Empire SLX Cycling Shoe offers a comfortable fit, regardless of arch height or shoe volume.
Underneath, the Imperial uses a top-level Easton EC90 SLX2 carbon sole with additional resin than the previous SLX sole for greater durability. Giro’s Super Natural footbed has three arch support options for optimal pedaling efficiency. The Empire SLX weighs in at 185 grams in a size 42.5.
The Giro Empire SLX Cycling Shoe is offered in fourteen sizes (39-48), with half sizes between sizes 42-46. Empire SLX is offered in three colorways. This also includes Giro’s 60-Day Fit Guarantee, which allows riders sixty days to decide whether this shoe is for them. If not, exchange for a full refund.
