One of the most important parts of any gravel bike is the handlebar setup, and so Shimano’s most notable part of their GRX gravel bike group are the shifters. The new Shimano GRX ST-RX810 Disc Brake/Shift Lever Set is designed for gravel bikes and how gravel riders use their bikes most frequently.
Shimano found that most riders tended to use their brakes most frequently with hands on the hoods rather than the drops. This led Shimano to make a few key changes, including anti-slip textured hoods, scalloped brake lever blades that fingers naturally rest on that are finished in matte rather than gloss, and brake lever pivots that are raised by 18 mm. They also receive Shimano’s Servowave brake technology, allowing more immediate pad contact and amplified braking power for the same force at the lever. These shifters work interchangeably with other Shimano Di2 road derailleurs, but if you ride a lot of dirt and plenty of rough descents, these are likely the way to go for improved braking and ergonomics.
The Shimano GRX ST-RX815 Disc Brake/Shift Lever Set is offered in two variations:
- Shimano GRX ST-RX810 Disc Brake/Shift Left Lever
- Shimano GRX ST-RX810 Disc Brake/Shift Right Lever
All Shimano GRX ST-RX815 Di2 Disc Brake/Shift Lever Set options are designed for 11-speed shifting, and work with all 11-speed Shimano mechanical road derailleurs, from Ultegra R8000 Di2 to GRX RD-RX817 derailleurs.
