The RC9 road shoes from Shimano take a high tech approach to making a better cycling shoe. The Shimano S-Phyre Shoe RC9 is super stiff to enable optimal power transfer so that no watt is left behind for maximum efficiency. Not only are these new shoes light, at only 232 grams in size 42, they seamlessly combine also stiffness and comfort unlike other high-end footwear. Using a one-piece upper made from durable Avail microfiber Shimano eliminates the stitching that often causes chafing in other shoes. This microfiber is highly porous, like real leather, making it very breathable without stretching our losing its shape over time. Shimano also perforates the upper to gain more ventilation and improves flexibility for excellent comfort. As well, this dimpled surface creates golfball like aerodynamics to minimize wind resistance and drag so nothing about the RC9 will slow you down. To make these shoes as light as possible they have removed the standard lasting board that is normally used to attach the uppers and bottoms together. Instead Shimano uses a one-piece heel cup – extending to the arch – that is bonded to a reinforced carbon sole for incredible stability and superior power transfer.
Keeping with the minimalist theme a set of BOA IP1 dials are put to use as they add very little weight while providing maximum adjustability. The two dials can be tightened or loosened independently and feature micro-adjustability with Powerzone wire lacing to allow a fit personalized to your foot. Shimano even gives you a pair of pro-level S-Phyre socks to compliment the fit and feel of their newest footwear. Each of these advancements add up to make the Shimano RC9 a shoe with the next-level performance needed to get the most out of your high-end race bike.
