2020 BMC URS TWO
Our first look at the BMC URS can be found HERE.
While gravel bikes are more diverse than ever, most of them are still road-oriented in origin. Road bike geometry works well on glass-smooth terrain, but they sometimes fall apart on more technical terrain. On the other hand, there are few gravel bikes with origins in mountain bikes, and even fewer bikes steeped in XC racing. The 2020 BMC URS TWO gravel bike takes technology from the Teamelite hardtail and applies it to the Swiss Army knife feel of the URS.
The star of the show here is the URS geometry. At the core of the URS, you'll see a slack 70-degree head angle, long trail figure, and relatively low stack numbers across all sizes. A steep 74-degree seattube angle that, when paired to a very short 55 mm or 70 mm stem (depending on size), places plenty of weight on the front wheel and makes the bike easy to maneuver over and around technical terrain. This also means that the rider is fairly upright on the bike, in a way that feels more like a mountain bike than anything with a drop bar.
All URS models use BMC's unique ICS stem that routes brake cables through the stem and into the headtube, as well as a modular cable stop that fits a Di2 junction box. There are integrated rubber bumpers at the fork dropouts, downtube, driveside chainstay as preventative wear pieces. They've also included fender and rack mounts, dynamo hub wiring, three bottle cages, and space for a 700 x 45c or 650 x 47b tire. A frame weighs in at a reasonable 1050 grams with hardware. URS is 1x-specific.
The 2020 BMC URS TWO features the URS carbon frame and fork, and pair it to a Sram Rival/GX 12-speed drivetrain with a 10-50t cassette and 40t chainring. A DT SWISS GR 1600 SPLINE db 25 wheelset, Easton EA70 AX handlebar, BMC ICS stem, D-shaped carbon seatpost, and WTB Resolute 700 x 42c tires. URS is available in four sizes.
