Product Description

There’s a trail you’ve been meaning to ride for a long time. You’ve tackled some pretty gnarly terrain on your current bike, but you could use a bit more suspension to make the hits a bit more plush, the rough terrain more manageable, and above else a bike that’s more comfortable on that steep, rocky trail. There are plenty of excellent options out there, but non climb as well as your current trail bike. Not, at least, until the women's specific 2020 SCOTT Contessa Ransom 910 long-travel 29er came along.

Each SCOTT Ransom is based around a completely new frame that fits both a 29 x 2.6” and a 27.5 x 2.8” tire with room to spare. The Ransom 910 model uses their HMF carbon frame and alloy swingarm which is 1x-specific and tuned for greater stiffness in the bottom bracket area. What sets the Ransom apart is the new Fox NUDE TR EVOL shock, which offers a Ramp Adjust Lever on the shock. Set the shock in the progressive setting, and the shock will offer greater support for bigger hits and jumps. Set the shock in it’s linear setting for when impacts are smaller, more frequent, or when traction is of the utmost important. It’s like removing or adding a volume spacer from the shock, just with the flick of a switch. Other neat features include integrated frame guards along the downtube and bottom bracket, as well as additional coverage around the seatstays and chainstays to quiet any chainslap. The frame also has enough clearance for a variety of aftermarket piggyback shocks if wanted.

This being Scott, their near-ubiquitous TwinLoc suspension system makes an appearance here. The idea is this: a 170mm mountain bike is great as a descender, but to get to the top, the bike needs to climb well to get to the top. With the flick of a thumb lever, the rear suspension travel goes from 170 to 120mm travel to make it climb like a cross-country bike. Traction mode also raises the bottom bracket 20mm, makes the head and seat tube angles 1.5 degrees steeper on a 15 degree incline, and places the rider in a better climbing position. Need to take a gravel road to the next trail head? Use the bike’s Lockout mode for a truly efficient bike.

What’s all this tech like on the trail? In short, it feels like a more confident SCOTT Genius. At just 30.5 pounds, the Ransom 910 is lighter than any other bike with this much travel. The bike feels easily flickable for a bike with this much suspension, but it feels much better prepared for bigger, successive hits. In the shock’s Linear mode, the bike feels as plush as a downhill bike, but when you’re looking to take the Ransom to a bike park it adapts with ease. The Ransom has a long wheelbase and is slack, but it certainly doesn’t feel sluggish or immovable by any means. Twinloc matters here as much as it does on any other Scott, but it’s perhaps the best application yet of the technology, and makes for a long-travel bike unlike any other.

The 2020 SCOTT Contessa Ransom 910 uses an HMF carbon frame and alloy rear swingarm, and pairs it to a Fox NUDE TR EVOL shock and a Fox 36 Float Performance Elite Air fork, both with 170mm travel. A SRAM GX Eagle drivetrain pairs to Shimano Deore XT brakes, Syncros Revelstoke 2.0 wheelset with DT Swiss internals, as well a Fox Transfer dropper seatpost. A Syncros Tofino 1.5 Ti saddle, Syncros alloy bar and stem, Syncros Trail Fender, and Maxxis Minion DHF 29 x 2.6” tires front and rear complete the build. This bike is available in four sizes (S-XL).
