Product Description
OPEN Cycle is known to keep things simple. This ethos doesn't just extend to their framesets, which value versatility over all else; they also sell their bikes as frame-only options to allow the rider to build their bikes just as the would want. With so many ways to build up the OPEN WI.DE frameset, we made sure to offer a few suggested builds to help you build your ideal gravel bike. This includes the OPEN WI.DE Shimano XT Di2 gravel bike.
OPEN's newest frame comes from the idea of winding detours, hence the name WI.DE. The OPEN WI.DE frameset goes a little bit further than the OPEN U.P., as it's set up more for extreme terrain. OPEN takes an U.P. frame, and massages it to fit a 27.5 x 2.4" or 700 x 46c tire without taking away too much from the bike's geometry. Add in a fourth cage mount under the bottom bracket, a 1.5 cm taller headtube, a slightly lower bottom bracket height, a new XS size, and boom, new bike that handles similarly to the U.P. but has different capabilities.
The WI.DE uses dropped chainstays on both sides to create the massive 2.4" tire clearance. OPEN says this actually increases bottom bracket stiffness, but we dig that this adds more tire clearance while maintaining the road bike-like 420 mm chainstays and maintaining similar geometry in sizes. Despite all of these changes, the new WI.DE weighs exactly the same as the U.P., at 1040 grams for a frame and 390 g for a fork.
The OPEN WI.DE Shimano XT Di2 is built around a Shimano Deore XT Di2 1x11 electronic drivetrain, with an Easton EA50 handlebar, stem, and seatpost. We offer your choice of Stan's Grail S1 wheels (700c) or Stan's Grail S1 wheels (650b/27.5") wheel options, and a Fabric Scoop Elite saddle. 700c wheels save weight and roll better on smoother surfaces, while the 27.5” mountain bike wheelset offers additional durability for rougher trails, and their extra width gives knobbies better bite and a plusher ride.
With only thirty framesets available worldwide, we made sure to bring in as many framesets as we could. Availability begins mid-June 2019, with five sizes available (XS-XL).
Whether you’re heading to Salt Lake City, or prefer we ship your OPEN WI.DE Shimano XT Di2 gravel bike to you, we’ll do a full, professional bike build, dialing in shifting and braking, truing wheels, etc. If you’re unsure about sizing, give us a call or email us at info@contenderbicycles.com to talk through geometry and fit. And although this is a “stock bike,” we are more than happy to discuss options of this build.
