Just about every high-level sports car company has come out with an SUV counterpart in the past fifteen years, bringing their quintessential DNA to a platform with a wider focus than pure street performance. With the Pinarello Grevil GRX Di2 gravel bike, the brand from Treviso brings their typical Pinarello flair, design, and performance to a genre aimed at versatility above all else.
The Pinarello Grevil is based around Toray T700 carbon, same as what’s found on the Pinarello Prince Disk road bike. All frames are capable of fitting anywhere between a 700 x 25c road tire to a 27.5 x 2.1” mtb tire. This is thanks largely to a dropped chainstay, akin to what OPEN and 3T has done with their gravel bikes to ensure the bike has short 420mm chainstays like a road bike. However, Pinarello found that using a dropped chainstay substantially changes energy transfer from the wheel to the saddle, and so they designed what they’re calling their Twin Arms technology. In short, because the drive side chainstay is dropped, the drive side seatstay ought to be dropped as well to ensure the rear of the bike responds to stress similarly. Small details, but enough that make a Pinarello holistically unique from the competition.
Apart from that, the Grevil has plenty of features from the Dogma family. It features a concave downtube for improved aero around the water bottles, and provides a little opening for a Di2 junction box. The now-ubiquitous Onda fork and Fork Flaps are found here as well, with the non-drive side much bigger to smooth air flow around the disc brake caliper. Pinarello added a third bottle cage under the downtube (when air flow isn’t as important), as well as the comfort-laden seatpost from the Dogma K10. All in, features like these make the Grevil that much more versatile on and off the beaten path.
Geometry plays a substantial role in dictating the character of a bike, and Pinarello went to great lengths to ensure that the Grevil and Grevil+ ride like a Pinarello. Reach and stack numbers are similar to what you'd find on the Pinarello Gan K, with just a touch more stack. Pinarello managed to ensure that the wheelbase is only about 2.5% longer than the Gan K despite much greater tire clearances.
The Pinarello Grevil GRX Di2 features a Toray T700-grade carbon frame and fork, and adds in the 2x GRX Di2 group atop Fulcrum Rapid Red 300 700c wheels and a MOST handlebar and stem manage to be both light and strong. The Grevil is available in six frame sizes (44 to 59 cm).
