This SCOTT Spark RC 900 LTD is a Bike Nino Schurter Could Be Proud Of
We pride ourselves on having a wide array of bikes for riders of every background, from the new cyclist looking to hop back on a bike, to the dedicated enthusiast that wants the very best out there. What doesn't change is that as a bike shop in Salt Lake City or Park City, Utah, we want to make sure that every bike is done right, even if the bike is leaving Utah. This custom-built SCOTT Spark RC 900 mountain bike is just that, as its new owner drove from Colorado just to see their bike in the flesh.
To be clear, we ship bikes regularly and build custom bicycles just as regularly. But it is always a treat to have someone come from somewhere that isn't local to us because of our expertise or because of the stock we carry. Our stock in question was this 2020 SCOTT Spark RC 900 Nino LTD mountain bike, a frameset we knew we wanted in our shop. As we've detailed in the past in previous blog posts, this Spark RC celebrates Canada, the host of this year’s World Championships. The red and white paint scheme, as well as the maple leaf decals, are unique to this bike. The metallic red sets the bike apart and is a color that is rarely seen on mountain bikes. We dig it, and so did its new owner.
Special touches include color-matched SRAM XX1 Eagle cranks and custom-painted SRAM Level Ultimate brakes and calipers that really set this bike apart, as well as an ultralight Syncros Fraser iC SL handlebar and Syncros Duncan 1.0 seatpost. Besides that, the bikes received a SRAM XX1 AXS groupset featuring the beautiful oil slick cassette and chain to keep the momentum moving, as well as a DT Swiss XRC 1200 Spline carbon wheelset. DT Swiss sponsors the SCOTT-SRAM MTB Racing Team and their Cape Epic setup features this exact wheelset. This bike even has the same Maxxis Aspen 2.4" tires. These mountain bike tires on the wider side for a race XC mountain bike, but they roll quickly and offer greater grip than a typically-narrow tire.
This SCOTT Spark RC 900 also features the same Rockshox shock setup, with a Sid Ultimate fork and a Rockshox Nude RLC3 shock made specifically for this bike. Unlike other SCOTT bikes with shocks that use the Twinloc suspension lever, this NUDE shock features a low-speed compression adjustment in addition to a rebound and three-position lockout. SCOTT's lightweight HMX carbon frame and swingarm weigh in at 1849 g in a size medium, and all said and done this bike weighed in at just under 22 lbs without pedals. All of this makes for a bike that Nino Schurter himself (or Kate Courtney, or the rest of the SCOTT-SRAM team) could be proud of, if only because this is basically the bike they're riding!
