Insider’s Guide: Making the Most of The Contender Parking Lot Sale
[In-si-der]: per Webster’s Dictionary, an insider is a member of a discrete group, or someone with access to inside information or company decision making. Or in this case, just a humble Contender staffer, who wants to help you to lay claim to a smokin’ deal at our annual Parking Lot Sale, taking place this Saturday, May 3rd.
With up to 50% off select bikes and up to 70% off select apparel and gear, the parking lot will be packed to the gills with great finds. To help make the most of this year’s sale while bringing your two-wheeled dreams to life, we present “Insiders Guide: Making the Most of the Contender Parking Lot Sale.”
-
Test Early, Buy Confidently. Jonesing for a new bike for yourself or a loved one, but not sure on the make, model, or size? Your best bet is to come in before Saturday, test ride some bikes and ask all your questions, and set your sights on your desired rig. The payoff? On Saturday, you’ll be able to move quickly–and confidently.

Early Bird Gets the Worm. There are days to sleep in, and there are days to try out that new breakfast recipe from Tik Tok. Saturday, my friend, is not one of those days. In our experience, the best bikes, clothing, and gear tend to go quickly, so plan to arrive early (we open at 9am), and you should have your pick of the litter. For the shop address and other details, check out ‘About Contender.’
-
Fast Fashion–Literally. As noted above, killer deals on clothing and gear will be there for the taking. If considering clothing from a European-based brand, we recommend most cyclists ‘size up’ (i.e., if you wear a medium, buy a large), and if buying a US or Canadian-based brand, your true size should be on point. If buying for your kiddos, sizing up can also be a good strategy, helping those jerseys, shorts, or knee pads last an extra year or two.
-
Whether to Drive, Walk, or Uber…That, Is the Question. Newsflash: parking will be tight during the Parking Lot Sale (thanks, Captain Obvious). If driving to Contender, your best bet will be to park on 900 south or one of the nearby residential streets. For folks picking up a new bike, getting dropped off or walking to the store–followed by a joy ride home on your new set of wheels–just might be the savviest move of all.
-
We Wheely Love this Tee. By spending $200 or more on Saturday (in store only), you’ll score yourself a free, limited edition, custom-designed Contender t-shirt. Last year was a classic–an outline of the state of Utah, filled with 9th and 9th lettering, and the Contender logo beneath. This year’s design? Come in on Saturday to find out. If curious about other Contender branded apparel, you can check out the full lineup here.
Bonus Tip: Where the Rubber Meets the Rad, Err…Road
Finally, from road to gravel to MTB, we’ll have bins of brand new tires, available at steep discounts. To add some inside baseball to this insider’s guide, these will be unboxed, “takeoff” tires–tires that came on a brand new bike, but the cyclist chose to swap them out for something else. Good as new, and quite possibly the best deal in the entire Parking Lot Sale.
