Congratulations on your bike purchase!

Before assembling your bike, we would like to cover some important information.

Should any damage occur to the box or product

Any damage in shipping will require us to file a claim with our shipper. You will need to keep the bike box and all of the original packaging. The bike must NOT be ridden. If you throw away any of the contents in the box including the box, your claim may become null. In case of damaged goods, we will need to go through our shipper’s claims process. Call our service department immediately at 801.364.0344 or email us at info@contenderbicycles.com for a claim or an explanation on the claim process. Do not send us anything without a RA# as it will be refused. To speed up the process you can send pictures of the damaged item and the packaging in question via email.

WHEN REMOVING PACKAGING

Be very careful in clipping any zip ties. You can cause damage or cut a tire if you are not careful. We recommend clipping with small diagonal cutters VERY CAREFULLY. Box cutters can easily damage your frame.

WHEN ASSEMBLING YOUR BIKE

If you are not familiar with how to properly assemble a bike, we strongly recommend having a qualified mechanic assemble your bike. This is particularly important if you are not familiar with torque specs on seat post binders and stems that are found on many of today’s bikes. Handlebars, front wheel, rear wheel, rear derailleur, pedals and seat-post may also have been removed for shipping. The seat post should be inserted past the minimum insertion point as marked on your seat post. On some wider or longer bicycles the rear derailleur will have to be installed on the rear derailleur hanger. Please refer to the Bike Assembly Checklist for a step by step guide to getting your bike up and running.

Unboxing & Assembly

  • Inspect box for excessive damage before opening
  • Take photos of box if damaged
  • Open box using caution as a knife or box opener could damage the bike
  • Pull frame & front wheel out of box
  • Locate seatpost/saddle & install into seat tube with a thin layer of grease or carbon paste
    • If a Di2 wire is present plug it onto the battery inserted into seat post & install seat post with care not to damage the wire
  • Use diagonal cutters or scissors to cut zip ties to detach front wheel from frame IF NEEDED
  • Cut zip ties to detach the handlebar
    • Be careful not to pull or kink any hoses, wires or housing
    • Hold handlebars while cutting to prevent them falling and knocking / damaging the frame
  • Remove foam padding from frame
    • Save any packaging for reuse if needed
  • Lightly attach handlebar to stem
  • Remove plastic protective axle caps from the front wheel
    • Be careful not to pull off the axle end caps. Reinstall if needed.
  • Remove pad spacer from front brake caliper & keep for future transport (if disc brake)
    • Be sure not to squeeze the brake lever once the pad spacer is removed
  • Install the front wheel & tighten axle to recommended torque settings or secure skewer

Contact point check

The contact point check involves checking all of the points where the rider contacts the bike to ensure everything is tight and will not come loose while riding. Check handlebars, stem, cranks, wheels and saddle. If any of these areas are loose make sure to tighten the appropriate bolts to proper torque before riding.

TEST RIDE CHECK

Before going on any long rides, take the bike for a quick spin around the block to ensure everything is working properly. We test ride every bike before repackaging it to work out any problems. Things can still come loose, so make sure to double check all the bolts and check the shifting. With your bike having new cables, there will be a break in period which will require you to at some point tighten the cables and adjust your shifting. This is normal due to cable stretch. If your new bike starts to feel as though it is not shifting as crisply as right when you received it, it is time to tighten the cables and fine tune shifting.

MAINTAINING YOUR NEW BIKE

Please read all of the manufacturer’s manuals on the manufacturer’s website for proper guidelines on upkeep/service of all parts installed on your new bike.
