Beautiful Bicycle: Drop Bar Orbea Oiz

Beautiful Bicycle: Drop Bar Orbea Oiz

Written by Ezra Jefferies, on March 13, 2026

Drop bars on a full-suspension cross-country bike have become a quiet point of debate, especially as marquee events like the Leadville Trail 100 have moved away from allowing them. This Orbea Oiz takes the opposite approach. A custom bike does not need to answer to race rules or passing trends. It only needs to reflect the rider, their priorities, and the kind of ride they want to have.

By swapping to drop bars paired with SRAM Rival levers, the Orbea Oiz immediately changes character. It feels oriented toward long days in the saddle, covering ground with intention. It does not stop there. The addition of RockShox Flight Attendant turns the dial up further, blending endurance posture with modern suspension intelligence.

Frame Detail

The Orbea Oiz platform is compact and tightly resolved, with smooth transitions between the top tube, seat cluster, and shock housing. The RockShox SID Luxe Ultimate Flight Attendant shock sits cleanly within the front triangle, its dark finish contrasting against the pale frame. The gold linkage and seat stays introduce structure and visual separation without overpowering the main chassis.

Drivetrain

This build runs a mullet configuration that pairs SRAM Rival E1 hoods with a SRAM GX AXS Transmission rear derailleur. The 10-52t cassette and 32t chainring retain true mountain gearing while translating control through a drop bar interface. A SRAM X0 power meter crankset anchors the system with crisp machining and a purposeful stance. SRAM Rival levers actuate SRAM Level four piston calipers, keeping braking authority aligned with the bike’s suspension capability.

Suspension

RockShox Flight Attendant is what truly transforms this Oiz from an experiment into a fully realized concept. The SID Ultimate Flight Attendant fork with 120mm of travel pairs with the SID Luxe Ultimate Flight Attendant shock, creating a system that is constantly adapting without visible interruption. There are no extra levers cluttering the bar, no mental tally of when to lock out or open up.

Instead, the bike reads terrain and rider input in real time, shifting between open, pedal, and lock modes as the trail changes. On a build like this, where drop bars encourage long hours and steady efforts, that automation feels less like a luxury and more like alignment. The suspension works quietly in the background, letting the rider focus forward.

Cockpit & Contact Points

A ZIPP SL 70 XPLR handlebar introduces gravel ergonomics to a suspension platform built for singletrack. The OC Mountain Performance MP21 stem in a negative six degree angle keeps the front end composed and direct. ENVE Bar Tape 3.0 adds subtle texture without distracting from the hood profile. The decision to run a Ritchey Comp Carbon two bolt seatpost over a dropper sharpens the bike’s drop bar identity.

Wheels & Tires

The Oquo Mountain Performance MP30TEAM wheelset remains from the original specification, offering a stable and dependable platform. Wrapped in 2.40 Maxxis Rekon Race tires, the setup stays firmly planted in its cross country foundation. It is a steady baseline that lets the cockpit and suspension changes take center stage.
