Just Released: New BMC Teammachine SLR 01 Defies Gravity, Crushes Climbs
If ever there was a race bike poised to defy gravity, sailing up steep mountain grades while snatching KOMs in the process, it’s the new BMC Teammachine SLR 01.
This latest evolution of BMC’s most high-end race bike drops weight, sharpens handling, and leans into innovation with the grace and precision of a Swiss watch. Designed with the most competitive of road racers in mind, from all-around riders to surging sprinters to climbing specialists in particular, the Contender team sees this bike as sure to answer the call of the mountains, offering every possible advantage, front to back, top to bottom.

Climbing Credentials: The Teammachine SLR 01
While the Teammachine has long been BMC’s flagship climber, the 2026 SLR 01–a more premium, lighter weight version of the regular Teammachine SLR–pushes that legacy further. It’s 222 grams lighter than the outgoing model (painted, size 54), with reworked tube shapes, a refined carbon layup, and aerodynamic touches borrowed from its aero sibling, the Teammachine R 01. A full ride review will be forthcoming later this summer–be sure to bookmark the Journal, checking back every so often–but at present, our hypothesis is this: featherweight on the climbs, sure-footed on descents, and strikingly composed in the flats.
In short, we can’t wait.
What’s New? Key Features of the BMC Teammachine SLR 01
BMC isn’t shy about its ambitions here; this bike was built to win. Here’s what the Contender team sees as the top 5, most standout features of BMC’s new release.
-
16% Lighter Frame: the Gen 5 frame sheds a full 222 grams off the previous version. Thanks to optimized carbon construction and sleeker paint and decal schemes, riders should feel the difference when the road pitches upward, where it matters the most.
-
Borrowed Aero from the Teammachine R: while it's not a pure aero bike, the SLR 01 benefits from lessons learned in wind tunnels, drawn from the the BMC Teammachine R. A reduced frontal area, refined tube profiles, and a reshaped fork offer free speed on exposed climbs and descents.

-
Full Internal Cable Integration: the ICS Carbon Evo cockpit keeps cables out of sight and out of the wind. The result is a clean, modern aesthetic that complements the bike’s high-performance ride feel.

-
Tuned Compliance Concept (TCC): BMC's signature carbon layup and compliant Aero Shape seatpost help tame road buzz without dulling feedback. The result? Per BMC, a rider should stay fresher, longer, without sacrificing precision.
-
32mm Tire Clearance: built for modern race versatility, the new Teammachine gives a racer ample room for wider tires—ideal for rougher pavement, big days in the saddle, or simply dialing in more grip and comfort.

Fab Four: BMC Teammachine SLR 01 Build Kits
The Teammachine SLR 01 comes in four different build kits, detailed below. Contender will be offering the SLR 01 Two build kit to start (which retails at $13,649), but will be gradually adding others.
-
SLR 01 ONE: The hero build, with SRAM RED AXS, DT Swiss ARC 1100 DICUT wheels, and a 6.6 kg complete weight. All the performance, none of the compromises.

-
SLR 01 TWO: Shimano’s Dura-Ace Di2 build, equally light and equally refined, with the same wheels, cockpit, and finish.

-
SLR 01 THREE: The SRAM Force AXS version comes in at 7.1 kg and keeps things fast and functional with CR 40 SL carbon wheels.

-
SLR 01 FOUR: A more approachable price tag with Shimano Ultegra Di2, the same wheels as the THREE, and all the integration you expect from BMC.

High-End Race & Climbing Bikes: What Else is Out There?
Beyond the BMC Teammachine SLR 01, Contender has the deck stacked on high-end race bikes that also slay on the climb. Here’s a sampling of what we offer, both online and in-store:
-
Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL8: perhaps the most direct rival to the Teammahine, the Tarmac blends lightweight feel with standout aerodynamics. A mainstay in the WorldTour peloton, for good reason.
-
Pinarello Dogma F: Italian finesse meets race-tested pedigree. Heavier on paper, but known for its stiffness, ride quality, and second-to-none brand prestige.
-
Orbea Orca: lightweight, with custom MyO paint options and a balanced geometry that punches above its price point.
-
Scott Addict RC: Ultralight, responsive, and aggressive—especially in its top-tier HMX SL build.
