Beautiful Bicycle: Specialized S-Works Crux 5

Specialized introduced the new Crux 5 just before the 2026 Unbound Gravel, and it wasted little time making an impression. The bike swept first through third in the men’s race, with Keegan Swenson adding another Crux in fifth, while Sofia Gómez Villafañe took the women’s win with Geerike Schreurs following in second. Does that mean Specialized had the fastest bike, the fastest riders, or simply the right combination of both? We can leave the speculation there, because regardless of what made the Crux so successful at Unbound, it is easy to take one look at this S-Works build and appreciate it for something much simpler: it is a beautiful bicycle.

Frame Detail

Built around the S-Works level frameset, this Crux is finished in Specialized’s Fjord Silver colorway. Specialized tends to get its paint right, and this finish is a strong example of that. Greens, browns, creams, silvers, and charcoals all appear through the flaked surface, giving the frame a lot of depth as the light changes. The large silver graphics sit cleanly over the top without taking attention away from the finish itself.

Drivetrain

The drivetrain uses SRAM RED XPLR with a 10-46t, 13-speed cassette paired to a slightly smaller 40t chainring. That gearing gives this customer a little more range for steeper climbs, especially on gravel routes that often turn into singletrack. The crankset is SRAM’s RED XPLR AXS Power Meter setup, keeping power measurement integrated cleanly into the drivetrain. A waxed chain finishes the setup with one more small nod toward efficiency.

Wheels & Tires

This is where the build takes a more aggressive turn. The new ENVE G SES 6.7 PRO wheelset gives the Crux a substantial aero upgrade and changes the overall proportion of the bike in a way that is hard to miss. Wrapped in 50 mm Specialized Pathfinder tires, the setup pairs deep-section wheels with the volume that has become increasingly common on modern gravel bikes. The result feels focused on speed without losing the versatility that makes the Crux appealing in the first place.

Cockpit & Contact Points

Rather than using a Roval cockpit, this build continues with ENVE through the front end. The one-piece aero bar measures 40 cm at the drops with a 110 mm virtual stem length, keeping the position narrow and consistent with the aero direction of the wheel choice. An S-Works Power saddle completes the contact points with a clean, familiar shape.
