We have only just started to see 2021 SCOTT bikes trickle in, but we have fielded loads of questions about what’s changed for the new year. As such, we have rounded up some of the most important changes to the SCOTT mountain bike line for 2021 to help you figure out what bike is best for you.
The 2021 SCOTT MTB Buyer’s Guide Part Two – Genius and Ransom
SCOTT Genius
The 2021 SCOTT Genius is their do-all trail bike. It features 150mm travel front and rear, plenty for your local bike park without getting lost in it on tamer trails. While not much has changed for the 2021 Genius, not much needed to change: the option for two wheels sizes, a lightweight carbon frame and swingarm, and the SCOTT-exclusive Fox NUDE TR EVOL shock separate the Genius from the competition. Genius is available with a carbon or an alloy frame in four sizes. The one update across the size range is an update to the Fox 36 fork (nearly all prior Genius feature a Fox 34 fork) for increased steering stability and support at speed. The Fox 36 generally represents a substantial increase in cost, but prices for 2021 Genius have largely held steady.
Choose the SCOTT Genius as your do-all bike. Twinloc and low weight for a trail bike make it all-day rideable, but 150mm suspension makes it fun in just about any situation.
SCOTT Genius 910 AXS The 2021 SCOTT Genius 910 AXS packs some of the coolest technologies available in mountain bikes today. A Syncros Hixon iC carbon one-piece handlebar stem combo adds steering precision and cuts weight. Likewise, a SRAM GX-X01 AXS wireless drivetrain makes shifting faster and easier than ever. The addition of the Fox NUDE TR EVOL shock and it's Ramp Adjust feature allows for mid-ride changes to the shock's progressiveness. Call it adding and removing volume spacers at the flip of a switch; SCOTT calls it Genius.
SCOTT Genius 930 SCOTT’s Genius is best known for it's lightweight, agile demeanor, and the 2021 SCOTT Genius 930 mountain bike has it in spades. It features a Fox 36 Performance fork and a Fox NUDE EVOL T shock, both with 150mm travel. Shimano Deore four-piston brakes, and a Shimano SLX-Deore XT 12-speed drivetrain round this bike out into a true trail weapon.
SCOTT Genius 950
Everything you dig about the Genius is found in the 2021 SCOTT Genius 950. The Fox Float EVOL Performance shock and Rockshox Revelation fork are tied to SCOTT's Twinloc lockout that offers three unique suspension tunes. Add in the Shimano Deore-XT 12-speed drivetrain and you have an all-arounder for your days that go big, all-day, or both.
SCOTT Ransom
No bike with 170mm suspension travel front and rear has any business being as versatile as the SCOTT Ransom. The 2021 SCOTT Ransom is SCOTT’s long-travel enduro bike, featuring progressive geometry and lightweight carbon and alloy construction. The Ransom Tuned weighs under 30 lbs, but other Ransom models offer among the best performance per dollar among any long travel bike on the market today. Ransom is available in four sizes. All SCOTT Ransoms receive either the new Fox 38 or a Rockshox ZEB fork and receive a new Maxxis Assegai/Dissector tire pairing. Ransom is available in four sizes.
Choose the SCOTT Ransom as your effortlessly capable long-travel 29er mountain bike. From stage racing, bike parks, and most demanding trails, the Ransom has the goods to keep the party going. See our review of the SCOTT Ransom HERE.
SCOTT Ransom 910 The 2021 SCOTT Ransom 910 receives the new Fox 38 Performance fork with 170mm travel paired to the SCOTT-exclusive Fox NUDE EVOL TR shock with its unique Ramp Adjust lever. SRAM GX Eagle with the new 10-52t cassette, a combination Maxxis Assegai/Dissector tires, and a durable Syncros Revelstoke 2.0 wheelset set this bike apart. The beautiful khaki green paint looks awesome in person.
SCOTT Ransom 920
Not everyone wants or needs carbon fiber, and so the 2021 SCOTT Ransom 920 carries the torch as a well-spec'd aluminum long-travel 29er that doesn't cost a fortune. The new Fox 38 Performance fork pairs to a Fox NUDE EVOL T shock, Syncros components, and a Maxxis Assegai and Dissector tire combo.
