Product Details

The Lake CX242 is a high-performance road shoe engineered to deliver a fully customizable fit, combining advanced materials with precision adjustability for riders with hard-to-fit feet or those who demand exacting comfort standards. Designed for serious road cyclists who refuse to compromise between performance and all-day wearability, the CX242 represents Lake's commitment to solving the fit challenges that plague many riders.

Built on Lake's CX/TX Competition Last, the CX242 features a curved profile with increased toe pitch and heel lift to support high-cadence riding while allowing the forefoot to expand naturally under load. This anatomically optimized design promotes efficient power transfer while reducing pressure hotspots during sustained efforts, making it ideal for long training rides, gran fondos, and competitive racing.

The 100% carbon fiber sole maximizes stiffness and responsiveness, ensuring that every watt of power is transferred directly to the pedals without energy loss through flex. Above it, a segmented upper constructed from premium full-grain leather or Clarino microfiber with NuFoam lining is divided into six independent zones, allowing riders to fine-tune fit and relieve pressure on sensitive areas such as bunions, high insteps, or uneven foot shapes that traditional shoes cannot accommodate.

A heat-moldable heel counter enhances rear-foot stability and retention, conforming precisely to individual heel shape for a locked-in feel without pressure points. Carbitex support panels reinforce the structure throughout the midfoot and forefoot, providing secure support without restricting natural foot movement. Dual BOA Li2 dials deliver precise, bidirectional micro-adjustments across the independent upper zones, enabling riders to dial in a truly personalized fit that adapts throughout the ride.

For cyclists who have struggled to find shoes that combine race-level stiffness with comfortable, customizable fit, the Lake CX242 offers a solution that doesn't compromise. These shoes prove that high performance and exceptional comfort aren't mutually exclusive, they're essential partners for riders logging serious miles. Available in full-grain leather or Clarino microfiber uppers, with multiple width options and heat-moldable construction for a truly custom fit.

Key Features

  • Six-Zone Segmented Upper Independent adjustment zones with dual BOA Li2 dials enable precise fit customization for complex foot shapes
  • 100% Carbon Fiber Sole Maximum stiffness delivers uncompromising power transfer for efficient, responsive pedaling
  • Competition Last with Heat-Moldable Construction Curved profile and moldable heel counter optimize high-cadence performance and personalized stability

The CX242 uses a segmented upper construction designed to accommodate a wider range of foot shapes than traditional one-piece uppers. Because support is distributed across multiple panels rather than a continuous closure path, pressure across the instep is reduced, and the shoe adapts well to difficult-to-fit feet or sensitive pressure zones.

This design may feel less aggressively locked-in across the top of the foot compared to models such as the CX239. This is intentional and prioritizes adaptability and comfort during long rides.

Built on the Competition Last, the wider base platform improves stability without fitting like a traditional wide shoe. If you are between sizes or prefer additional room, consider sizing up 0.5–1 size.
