The SCOTT Scale Gravel 20 starts with a cross-country race platform rather than a traditional gravel bike design. Built from the proven Scale RC hardtail, it swaps the suspension fork for a lightweight rigid carbon unit, creating a fast, efficient machine for mixed-terrain riding. The result sits somewhere between gravel and mountain biking, and it feels more like a quick XC bike than a typical drop-bar gravel rig.
That heritage shows in the frame. The Scale HMF carbon chassis uses monocoque construction, with the main front triangle molded in a single piece and the whole frame made from just three molded sections. Fewer junctions mean less weight without giving up the stiffness that makes a hardtail accelerate so well, and because the frame handles loads as one system, it stays composed when the surface gets rough. The hollow dropout design keeps the axle head flush for a clean look and trims weight, while a small service door behind the downtube cover gives easy access to the inside of the frame for cable maintenance, with no need to remove the bottom bracket.
Out on the trail, the rigid fork improves pedaling efficiency and cuts weight, while the XC-inspired geometry keeps handling responsive and stable across changing terrain. Clearance for tires up to 2.4 inches lets riders run high-volume rubber for extra traction and vibration damping, which makes a real difference on washboard roads and loose corners. The flat handlebar adds leverage and steering control, and it will feel instantly familiar to anyone coming from a mountain bike background.
