The Specialized S-Works Epic 9 represents 24 years of World Cup, World Championship, and Olympic-winning XC innovation distilled into the lightest, fastest, most capable cross-country race bike ever created. Built for the Specialized Factory XC Team, winners of multiple World Cup podium sweeps in 2025, the Epic 9 answers a singular question: what slows riders down? The answer is extra grams, wasted motion, and micro-mistakes that break flow and bleed seconds by finish line.
The frame weighs just 1,589 grams, making it 129 grams lighter than the nearest competitor, yet this achievement never compromises performance or control. Every surface was modeled through finite element analysis, every junction purpose-built, and every gram eliminated with obsessive devotion. Size-specific seat tube layups with variable wall thickness optimize weight, strength, and stiffness. A forged 57-gram link with 10-gram lighter hardware reduces friction by 11 percent throughout the suspension system. The integral top-tube shock mount maintains continuous fiber paths for maximum efficiency. The result is the lightest full-suspension XC race bike ever made at 8.5 kilograms complete.
The suspension retains the proven 120mm travel front and rear but delivers significantly improved ride quality through reduced friction and refined kinematics. The Dynamic Trio damping system, Wide Open, Magic Middle, and Sprint-On-Lock, now pairs with lower-friction pivots for responsive, supple performance. Magic Middle sets a firm pedaling platform that opens up when trail forces demand it, delivering efficiency on smooth sections and active control when terrain gets rough.
Geometry refined by thousands of real-world Body Geometry fit data points keeps the rider optimally positioned for traction, corner control, and technical terrain capability. The slack head tube and slightly raised bottom bracket keep the bike composed in rough terrain while providing pedal clearance. A flip-chip allows BB-height adjustability for tuning stability or clearance.
