Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL9 Frameset
Product Details
The Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL9 represents a fundamental shift in how the fastest road bikes are engineered. Rather than optimizing isolated metrics like weight or aerodynamic drag, Specialized architected this frameset around a single, measurable outcome: Time to Finish, the actual elapsed time to complete a real-world race course. Every structural decision, every aerodynamic refinement, and every gram of carbon has been engineered to minimize time across the courses that matter most: World Tour stages, Spring Classics, and championship courses where races are genuinely decided.
The breakthrough is the Equation of Speed, a physics-based model accounting for how rider, bike, and route combine to determine finishing time. This philosophy drives every design choice. The FACT 12r carbon frame weighs just 687 grams, achieved through Flow State Design, engineers studied deformation patterns under load and used advanced computational analysis to optimize tube shapes for structural efficiency rather than simply adding material. This extreme lightness doesn't compromise stiffness or compliance; the SL9 matches the exact performance targets of its predecessor while delivering measurable aerodynamic gains across all riding conditions.
Every surface has been reshaped for speed. The Speed Sniffer head tube uses a patented offset steerer design that reroutes the brake cable along the steerer, reducing the head tube by 4mm and frontal area by 10 percent. The dropped down tube keeps disturbed air from spilling into the frame. The Flow Fork twists outward to guide airflow efficiently, while the Win Fin rear triangle, redesigned based on real-world race observation, saves additional watts.
Every frame size receives size-specific carbon layup to deliver consistent handling and compliance across the entire range. The frameset is supplied complete with frame, fork, and seatpost, ready for your drivetrain and wheelset choice.
