Contender Ten Best of 2021: An Ultralight Orbea Oiz OMX
Building a dream bike means no compromise. You hand pick the exact elements of the bike that make you grin the biggest. Your bike needs your touch and we love to help people get exactly what they want.
When a customer came in with a vision for a lightning quick and beautiful cross country mountain bike in his head, we helped put it together with this incredible Orbea Oiz OMX that’s almost too pretty to dirty up.
When a customer came in with a vision for a lightning quick and downcountry mountain bike in his head, we helped put it together with this incredible Orbea Oiz OMX that’s almost too pretty to dirty up.
Starting off with an ultralightweight OMX carbon frame from Orbea, this size medium Oiz went through the MyO program which allows riders to pick and choose from thousands of color combinations. While bright colors do the trick for some, this bike was built in a classic colorway with a glossy Raw Carbon frame with striking gold logos and accents.
We have to admit - sticking with the classic design in this case draws your attention every bit as much as neon yellow.
There’s no shame in mixing and matching components from different brands. On this rig, there’s a carbon fiber integrated Syncros Fraser iC SL one-piece stem and handlebar combo that adds an unmistakably sleek view from the front. Toss in a set of Syncros Silverton carbon fiber hoops and you have an insanely plush ride.
Making this Orbea Oiz go is a SRAM XX1 AXS 1x12 drivetrain with a 32t Wolf Tooth chainring up front and a bronze colored SRAM XX1 10-52t cassette. The brakes are a Shimano’s XTR two-piston hydraulic disc setup. We added a Quarq power meter to the crankset for precise data for pin-point power reading.
A 120mm Fox Factory 34 Stepcast fork and Fox Float Factory Evol shock provide the ultimate suspension system for the racer who wants to rip it as hard as fast as possible without having to stress out when the trail gets a bit rough.
The ENVE seatpost with a 25mm setback and Selle Italia Flite Boost Superflow saddle are aggressive and comfortable for a perfect race-day combination.
Orbea’s MyO custom design system might have countless options for paint, but it’s hard to argue with this simple Oiz TR that takes hold of your gaze with its classic design.
And now for what you all are wondering: this Orbea Oiz weighs in at just 9.98 kg, or 22 lbs even. Not bad for a bike with a 120mm fork and shock.

Mario,
to answer the question, about Syncros Fraser compatibility with your Oiz: yes, it’ll work, mostly.
The spacer setup is slightly different on the Syncros/SCOTT products when compared to recent model Orbea models. They both angle up in the back but angle slightly differently. I think the Fraser will work just fine, but it won’t perfectly mesh as sit would with a Syncros/SCOTT headset and spacers.

Hi, thank you for the inspiration. I do build a similar one. Could you help me please. Is the syncros fraser compatible with the standard headset from orbea (Acros https://www.orbea.com/pl-en/gear/spare-parts/cat/h-set-s-integ-11-8-11-2-b-lock) or have you installed a different one? thank you in advance

Interesting on the weight. These build up to weigh basically nothing, and yes, I should’ve noted but that is with pedals. Will have to either reweigh or see what’s up with the bike.
